We have two little kids and are closing on a house in 3 weeks, 8 miles from current house.

Here's our plan.  What advice can GD offer?

Now: start packing

night before close: load up our SUVs with personal belongings- linens, plates, clothes, kitchen stuff, etc.

morning of close: close on our home that we're selling (we're doing a 4-day rent back)
afternoon of close: close on new home.  Go directly to new home and drop off the SUV loads.
Go back to old house, and load up friends and families' cars/vans/SUVs with boxes.....ammo, plants, lamps, paintings, valuables, propane tank, lawnmower, TVs, other loose "crap" etc, etc.  Keep clothing on hangers and throw it in the trunks.

Day after close: safe dealer will move my safe for $400.

2 days after close:  truck and 6 movers will show up for the furniture and other heavy/bulky stuff (have used them before, and they have a solid rep)

3 days after close: have the old house cleaned.

That's about what we did.  However, we went 830miles instead of 8..

Thanks.  They're including a high def Panasonic projector and 12' (?) screen.  HEAT should make for an enjoyable christening.

I'll now have a proper AR workbench

Babysitter to keep kids out of your way while moving.

Take kids back to see empty house (we had more time to move, bought house from a relative, daughter was < 2, she kept asking to "go home now", so we took her back and showed her the empty apartment, she then realized the house was home now and settled in without any issues).

i would get a uhaul so you move more with less trips, or if you can get a trailer it will make things move alot faster and quicker to unload.

Yep, forgot to mention the babysitter.  That will be critical with our 58# version of Curious George.
