We just bought this place and the grass is good in some areas, still green, other spots it's brown and pliable and other places it's brown and crunchy. Can I get the brown stuff to grow back?  I was going to get some weed-n-feed but I want some advise before I just start buying things that may not work.

It may be the dumbest question but some of this stuff is d-e-a-d.  Water may bring back the half dead stuff but I think I need more to bring back the crunchy stuff.

I posted the same thread a few weeks back, and left more confused then when I started.

Good luck.

It may take the rest of the summer but it will come back.  I have a few dead spots in my yard due to a malfunctioning sprinkler head.  I've fixed the sprinkler and the grass is now slowly coming back.  One weekend I needed to drain my pool so I drained a lot of the water on to the dead area and that helped a lot.

ETA- Be careful with weed and feed or fertilizer, you don't want to burn your lawn any more.

Reseed the bad spots, water is good but I also like to add my own plant food. In a garden sprayer add 1 can of real beer (no lite), 1 can or real soda (no diet), and 1/2 cup of ammonia (it's liquid nitrogen). This is powerful plant food and is very good for vegetables as well. The non dead brown spots will green up and the whole lawn will get much better. I do this once a month.
