Im trying to get my Girlfriend into the whole idea of bieng prepared for the unexpected. She has recently moved here from the Philippines so everything here is new for her. The first few days she was here she was always asking me how come she never sees any patrol cars. She has gone from a country where you see guards everywhere and in all buildings to a place where in someways its almost the complete opposite....you dont usually see patrol cars and especially not armed guards everywhere, least not here in little rural Vermont.
She has made comments about how organized i am in regards to my tools or backpacks, camping gear..I have done my best to try and explain to her why its a good idea to always be trying to plan ahead, buy extra food...just always try to expect the unexpected. Well i think she is starting to get the point last night. I had to go to the ER because i managed to get a small sliver of metal in my eye and needed to have it removed..we went to the ER at 3:30 pm...reletively quiet there.. i think there was 1 person in the small waiting room and 3 people in the large waiting room.(with no major problems) The procedure for removing the sliver took a total of about 20 min, and they also updated my tetnus.. now you might be wondering why im talking about all this....well because i was in the ER for 6 hours... 6 hours when there is NOTHING going on.. she was getting rather upset that it was taking so long.. so i asked her.. what do you think would happen if there was some kind of major accident ? The point of my story.. be prepared as best you can, Have your own extensive firstaid kit, and wear your safety glasses. |
| Seriously, you went to the ER for metal in your eye? If you can walk into the ER you don't need to be there, and they treat you as such. They will finish their lunch before seeing you, if you walked in. Why didn't you go to a care now or some other type of walk in doctor service? or even a 24 non hospital emergency room? |

Actually i was under direction from my full time Doctor to go to the ER and have it looked at ASAP because metal in the eye can rust and get infected very easy... it had already been in my eye for a couple days...waiting until monday when i can get an appointment with a reg Eye doctor when it had already been almost 4 days doesnt really seem like a good idea to me. |
Good opportunity for a lesson. I've been trying to tell my wife why we should start buying and storing things, she's kind of resisted at first, didn't want to hear any of it. Then one day she mentioned to her mom some of the stuff I have been saying, her mom replies "why do you think I keep all that water and never let the gas tanks in our car go below 1/2 a tank?" Since then she's been more cooperative and me and her mom have been getting along better![]() |
