Something looks amiss Like the M4 profile barrel, and the rings on a A2What looks amiss about what kind of military issued rifle a Ranger is carrying? The M4 profile...not saying it isnt a real pic...but that profile didnt come out till 97....most of the shortys I saw...nevermind |

You've got that backwards. A 733 is an 11.5" Commando originally with A1 sights (I own one of these uppers), though later models had A2 sights. The 727 M16A2 Carbine was designed for the UAE with A2 sights and what became the "M4 profile" barrel so they could have an M16A2 Carbine with the heavier barrel profile and still mount an M203. SOCOM also bought and issued some. The 723 M16A2 Carbine had A1 sights and the brass defelector hump. This has been rehashed in the Retro Forum on numerous occasions. If you look in there, someone has also posted pages of the Colt catalog from that era with pics of the 723 and 733. Or you can go here and read the sections on the M4 Carbine and Colt Commando. |
