I just had Facebook suggest a friend to me. Which is no big deal, it does that all the time.

What got me about it was that it suggested someone to me that I've only talked to online either on Arfcom or via Gmail!

Anyone else have a leap like this? Surprised the heck out of me.

So far as I can tell there is NOTHING that would put our names together... Nothing.

The individual is not in the same state.

Neither of us has anything shooting related in our profiles.

Same goes for not having anything arfcom related (only common thread) in our profiles.

I'm at a loss. Just a strange one is all.

Facebook has the option of searching your email contacts as a way to find friends. You have to give Fcaebook your email and password for it to work, and it only works with services like Yahoo, Gmail etc.

if you were in his contacts on Gmail, and he did that as a way to find friends, there is your answer.

This happens even if you haven't used your email to search for contacts.

Someone else could have entered theirs, had you as a contact and the other guy, so it makes the connection that way.

If it came as an email, check the headers carefully.

There are a LOT of spam emails coming through as a Facebook friend request.

They're out of China (go figure).

I had a similar experience. So either the other people had their lists scanned or they are doing it without permission.

To my knowledge, I did not.

Gotcha - thanks. That makes sense.

I try to stay on top of what comes in and goes out information security-wise, so when I saw that person's name (which is cool, I am down with networking with good people) it just surprised me.
