I just got my invite for google voice....lots of good numbers out there. It is quite the interesting concept...you can pick your number based on area code, zip, or by spelling words/phrases. Lots of free numbers still available like xxx-get-both xxx-4ARFCOM xxx-Glock19 not to mention all of the obscene ones toucan think of...no SIIHPAPP though ;) Anyone else get their invite? The most useful feature is the ability to identify phone numbers as spam. The voice mail transcript is hit or miss but when it does work, it is nice to receive a text message with the transcription of the voice mail. Very useful. |

how do you make a call with it on the iphone? I can log in to google voice using safari. seems obvious enough: 'quickcall', number, call but then MY phone rings. I decline THEN the other phone rings, I answer it but its MY at&t voicemail box talking Setup a voice mail PIN in your Google Voice account. Once that is done, call your google number, enter your PIN and follow the prompts. I think Google has an applet to bypass the process listed above, but I have not used it. |

I'm trying to call Num2 by dialing it into the google voice webpage on my phone (Num1) but when I call Num2 from my phone MY google number shows on my own CID. I hit decline THEN Num2 rings and ITS CID shows my google number. I answer the second phone and its simply my at&t (not google) voicemail. eta: Ok. I experimented and 'answered' my own call. It seems to then perform its voodoo and proceeds to make the outgoing call using the google system, the google number showed on Num2 |

Ok, so I played around with Google Voice this morning.
As others have said, it unifies all of your phone numbers. So now I have a new number, and when someone calls this number all of my phones ring. The first time someone calls, they have to say their name to the system, and then I get a call that says "you have a call from xyz" I can then accept or reject, or accept and send them to voice mail....if I reject I guess they get blacklisted. The coolest part of the system is the web interface...I can see all of the calls I've received, the calls I've placed, missed calls, voice mails, etc. Also, I can dial directly from the interface, and it rings my cell phone and then connects me to the number I want. |
