Is it a bad sign when there are a bunch of termites on the outside of your windows?  My wife just called and said just about every window has some on them.    We bought the house a year ago and it had been treated for them at some time in the past (you could see the filled in spots in the concrete where they drilled) but it got the green light during the inspection...so I don't know if a swarm of them just headed our direction after the heavy rain we got or what the deal is.

Yeah, i'd say thats bad unless your house is made out of concrete, or pickles or something.

Tell her to catch and keep in a jar or zip lock bag a few for positive ID by a pest control tech.... If the house was treated for termites (Subterranean I'm guessing due to the patched holes you mentioned) then there should be some sort of guarantee or retreat type program.

I'd be more concerned if the swarm was inside....

Use Bifenthrin or Pyrethrin/pyrethrin. These are what Orkin uses. You can buy it granular as Talstar PL or EZ and spread it around the base of the house. Spray the liquid Bifenthrin/Pyrethrin on all wood outside and under the house. Any insect will die upon contact. Some forms are classified as Restricted Use but they are exactly the same (.5%). Just get the over the counter brands. Tack stores carry Hi-Yield® 38 Plus Turf Termite and Insect Control you can buy and dilute to .2% - .5%

Termidor is the product you need.

Swarmers come out of the ground, shed their wings, and leave a chem trail back to the nest to food sources.  If you are treated, you should be OK.  Just keep an eye out for termite tubes.

Years back I had about a gazillion of them come out of the crack between the garage slab and the house.  They covered the wall.  I didn't get a single tube from it, although I did get the ground treated for subterraneans within the month.

I self treat with the Termidor now.  Pest control companies are a rip off, in most cases.

Has it been raining?  If so, that is when they swarm.
