| What kind of training does the "Basic Combat Marine" get if he doesn't go into any specialty after he graduates from boot camp and is officialy a Marine before being sent into an area of operation. |
|
Quoted:
Marines don't get sent anywhere directly after becomming a Marine. Boot Camp ––––-> MCT / SOI ––––-> MOS School (Unless infantry, in which case SOI is School) We used to... Parris Island––––––>Millington––––––->El Toro They added MCT after I got out... Chris |

What is a "Basic Combat Marine"?
The only people I've ever heard identified as "basic Marines" were those who'd graduated Recruit Training, but were too sick or injured to continue on in training and were held over for recovery at the MCRDs. ALL other Marines attend secondary combat training at the School of Infantry. The Infantry Training Regiment handles those who are going to be Infantrymen, and Marine Combat Training Battalion trains the rest, who then go to their MOS schools. Again, there is no such thing as a Marine who doesn't have an occupational specialty and goes overseas immediately after boot camp. |

What is a "Basic Combat Marine"? Well you've got Marines that fly shit, Marines that drive shit, Marines the launch shit etc. Then you've got Marines that jump out of a APC run out and kill shit. Thas what I would refer to as a "basic combat Marine." What you are referring to is Marine Infantrymen. They go through ITR at the School of Infantry, then do whatever predeployment training their unit does before heading over. |
Some 92 day reservists don't get to go to MCT or the MOS school before deploying. We had one that went with us to Iraq that never went to MCT, but went 0621 school, and another that went to MCT but never went to his MOS school ![]() oh and plus 1 to what others said above |

After graduation from recruit training, they get 10 days leave then report to the School of Infantry. If the Marine is an 03xx he will go to Infantry Training Battalion to become either an 0311 rifleman, 0331 machine gunner, 0341 mortarman, 0351 assaultman, 0352 anti-tank missile man TOWs, and some may go to BRC to become a reconnaissance Marine and some go to LAVTC to become an LAV crewman.
If the Marine is not an 03xx he will go to Marine Combat Training for one month and then on to his MOS school. For 03xx's, upon graduation from SOI he will matriculate to the operating forces be they the Fleet Marine Force, Security Forces, etc. Most go to the FMF. Once in the FMF they will work up in various venues CONUS and OCONUS. Small arms shoots, patrolling, battalion operations, Bridgeport MWTC, MOUT packages, if the battalion is scheduled to be part of a MEU they will do a MEU(SOC) work up @ Pendleton or Lejeune respectively then a SOCEX to become SOC qualed. The culminating event before going overseas is/was Mojave Viper, formerly CAX @ MCAGCC, 29 Palms for 30 days. 2 weeks combined arms and 2 weeks urban. Are you ready to sign up or what? Any further questions please IM or email Stan08 currently a staffer @ School of Infantry West Camp Pendleton. |

Thas what I would refer to as a "basic combat Marine." Your definition of "basic combat Marine" seems to lean toward a grunt (0300 MOS series). Their 'speciality' (MOS) is being an infantry Marine. They receive a much longer and more advanced version of Marine Combat Training (MCT), that every Marine goes through. I'm not entirely sure what type of answer you're looking for. |
