A local BBQ place is going to be selling this at the Tanana Valley State Fair this year.  Applewood/Hickory smoked bacon, seasoned with sea salt and dipped in dark chocolate.  They're calling them "Pork Dippers," if I recall correctly.  Supposed to be rather good, despite impressions one might have based on the initial description.

Has anyone tried something like this?

No, but I can imagine this actually being decent...

Not something appealing to me, and I  love chocolate and bacon.

It sounds strange to me, but I will give it a shot when the fair rolls around.  They always have interesting food there to try.

I tried it the other evening on the way home. One of the guys on the train owns a candy-shop,
and his wife had made up a batch for him to bring along.

(We get to be test-victims for a lot of her "We're trying this. What do you think?" deals. )

It wasn't bad. More chewy than I expected, but wasn't bad. Can't say that I'd go out of my way
to get it again, but if it's offered, I'd try another piece.

There was an episode of 'The best thing I've ever eaten' on the food network. It was dedicated to bacon. They had a Bacon and apple doughnut, and a bacon chocalate desert. Both looked mighty tempting.

I tracked down the seller of the chocolate dipped bacon.  It was actually rather good, though a bit strange.  I think I could have done without the sea salt added.

I think instead of getting it chilled as it was at the fair, I would rather get the bacon hot and crisp and then get a cup of the melted chocolate to dip it in right before consumption.

I had one of those chocolate bacon bars. A chocolate bar with real bacon pieces in it. It was fantastic!

Tried it at our state fair.  Pretty good, but the chocolate was a little overwhelming-could have used much less.  Sort of tastes like a chocolate covered pretzel with a little smoke flavor.  Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't do it again.

Why do they add salt?

Might just be the salt in the bacon, but it definately had that salty-sweet flavor that makes it taste like a chocolate covered pretzel.
