Just got my 1st ever pair of contacts and was wondering if it's possible to swim with them or if they will float out of my eyes when I open them underwater??

It sucks, don't do it.

They wont just "float out" if that's what you're asking but I try to keep my eyes closed under water.  If there's a lot of water in your eyes when you go to blink, it can dislodge the contact.  I've never had a problem underwater with mine, it's always when I come out of the water.

There is a method for this. I've never done it but guys that I played water polo with would do this, dive in and when going pretty fast they'd open their eyes and the contacts would get "sucked" on to the eye ball.  i don't know the method for this. But its what the told me.

If you're going swimming leave the contacts at home and wear prescription glasss/sunglasses

It's OK to swim w/ contacts, just be prepared to keep your eyes closed when underwater.  Watch for splashes in the eyes too because your old habit of rubbing your eyes will dislodge the lens quick.  You'll get the hang of it.

you dont want the bacteria and other germs to get behind the lens, good way to get perma-blind quick.

I do swim with mine, but as soon as I get out of the water I trash them and rinse the eyes with saline really well then install new lenses.

Yes, they will float out. I get the US Navy SEAL goggles from US Diver inc. or somesuch. Even though I'm embarrassed to be seen buying poser gear, They work great.

Here is a similar pair. I usually buy mine at walmart
SEAL swim goggles

After lifeguarding & surfing for many years, I've realized that contacts will pop out at the least opportune times.  Keep your eyes closed underwater if at all possible.

Also, toss a pair of disposable contacts in your glove box should you lose one.  You can get a free back up pair by asking your eye doctor if you can try a few pairs of the daily disposable contacts.

I hate typical swimmers goggles and use something similar: Aquasphere goggles (mine have clear lenses).  Got 'em at Dick's.

Those look more like the ones I buy. They work great.

Goggles.  Get 'em.

But be careful of the pair you get.  These, for example, do nothing.

Been water skiing all day long with contacts, multiple falls, no loss only to jump in later to cool off and lost them...go figure.
Most of the time you can go squinty eyed under water and not lose them, but if you open your eyes all the way they're gone.

Tag for goggle recommendations and to say: don't swim with contacts.

I lost a contact......

Was using swimming goggles & somehow one got dislodged when  we held our drunken underwater wrestling match.......

What kind?  I used to swim pretty often with the older soft contacts that were much stiffer than the current ones.  I never had a problem.  With the new floppy and hard to put in disposable ones that are sold now I lose a contact about 25% of the time.  They suck.z

It's a good way to get an eye infection.  When your contacts are in, the only liquid that should touch them is your contact solution.

I wear focus night and day contacts. You put them in and 30 days later take them out and throw them away. I have never had a problem swimming with them on.

Also, I bet I am the most nearsighted guy on this site at -7.25 in both eyes. I have yet to meet anyone else that bad.
