I don't know a lot about him other than what i've read & seen on tv. He seems to be a true conservative. His state actually has a surplus & he turned down a hell of a lot of stimulus money. He's a big 2nd amendment supporter.
Any of our fellow Texans have better knowledge on him? I don't know why, I just find myself thinking more & more that this guy could be a great choice for the Republican party in 2012. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

As a Texan, no. He's a crook, but he's our crook. He is a very typical politician though. It's good for our movement right now and he wont step out to hurt the party, but he also is a slimebag. He's on record with way to many slimebag issues here. GWB was totally spotless compared to Perry. It's going to be a tight race here in Texas against Kay Bailey for him anyway. |

NEVER will happen. People don't like governors from southern states anymore. Forget Jindal too, he dropped the ball. Hell, people don't like governors from Alaska either. He is pro-RKBA BUT he has been tainted by secession talk and the Trans-Texas Corridor, toll roads and the property confiscation. He is leading Sen. Huthison in the 2010 governor race. |
|
Eh, I would vote for him. He is pretty much PERFECT on RKBA issues, but lack on some others. The whole trans-whatever corridor baloney should have never happened. He comes off to me as a little slimey.
That said you can't argue the huge surplus and balanced budget. |
|
He's more a true politician than a true conservative. He seems to be sewing his conservative roots now more than ever. Maybe now that his Progressive leaders are out of power he's just being himself more instead of following the Rovian doctrine? I honestly think that's possible, but am unsure. I think he's a lot better than most. And better than Kay Bailey's Washington elite ass for sure.
Here some complaints about him that I got in an email: Rick Perry’s record: • Toll Roads and Trans Texas Corridor – Is it socialism, fascism or communism? (2003) • Business Margins Tax – backdoor state income tax (2006) • HPV vaccine mandate – Attack on parental rights (2007) • FLDS El Dorado raid – Religious Oppression, traumatizes 438 children and their parents; out of control Child Protective Services raid based on crank phone call (2008) • Defeats Steven Wayne Smith – makes robo phone calls against most conservative Supreme Court judge in modern Texas history (2004) • Vetoes Texas Eminent Domain Bill – taking your land for a toll road more important than signing property rights protection overwhelmingly passed by Legislature. (2007) • Signs Hate Crimes bill –– Attack on free speech and creates thought crimes, includes sexual orientation as a class! (2001) • Globalist bootlicker – for United Nations, NAFTA, CAFTA, Trans Texas Corridor, Bilderberger toady. • Governor for NINE years, then reads about the 10th Amendment a few weeks ago. (2009) • Supports No Child Left Behind Act and Dept. of Education (Hey, is the federal government running your local school in the Constitution? Fine with Rick Perry.) • Endorsers liberal cross dresser and gun grabber Rudy Guiliani for President (2008) – tells his good friend Mike Huckabee I love you like a brother, but you can’t win so I am going with gun grabber Rudy Julie Annie, he’s a sure thing! The Bilderbergers said I can be VP if I grovel enough and am for toll roads, globalism, open borders, big government and, of course, the Federal Reserve. • Token opposition to illegal immigration – probably because the illegals will be building all his toll roads! Opposes wall on Mexican border. • Does not stand up for elected State Board of Education every time it gets castrated by the liberals in the legislature (2000s). Throws crumbs to conservatives on SBOE, but when they really need him, hides under desk, sticks fingers in ears. • Instituted state CHIP program!, a widely abused program and one more step to socialized medicine, more taxes and rationed healthcare. (Hey, is CHIP in the 10th Amendment?) • Texas Enterprise Fund – basically, Rick Perry’s slush fund for politically connected insiders, another WASTE of your tax dollars. Big Government + Big Business = Fascism. • Supports whopping $3 Billion Cancer BOND, the Lance Armstrong cancer tax – more taxing, borrowing and spending. (2007). |

People WAY too quickly forget the past and history, which is why it repeats itself. He's a McCain/Bush rhino type all over again. He IS NOT CONSERVATIVE. Yes he shoots guns and thats great but he is a politician and a moderate. He will not stand against illegal immigration any harder than he has to to get re-elected, he is in with the big drug companies, and the contractors for that wonderful Trans- Texas corridor. Screw him. |
|
The only reason he has "appeared" conservative recently and mentioned words like "secession" is because he knows KayBaby wants his spot, and it will be a hard fight to win.
The answer is HELL NO. He has done a few things ok, the surplus being one, but many many thing shitty: see posts above and to follow.

Haley Barbour.
Link Here's an excerpt. [edit] Barbour vs. The Partnership
Barbour's taxation policies have not been without contention. In March 2006 Barbour vetoed a bill that would lower grocery taxes, while simultaneously raising tobacco taxes.[16] Mississippians pay some of the highest grocery taxes in the nation.[17] The "Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids" insinuated that Barbour's lobbying-era affinity with the tobacco industry may also explain his 2006 proposal to dismantle Mississippi's controversial youth-tobacco-prevention program, called The Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi.[18] The Partnership is a private, non-profit group which receives $20 million annually and is led by former Attorney General Mike Moore. Moore created the organization when he, representing the State of Mississippi, settled a multi-billion dollar suit with the tobacco industry. According to the suit, the funds were to offset the extra costs incurred by Medicaid while dealing with smoking related illnesses. Opponents have consistently claimed that Moore uses the organization to further his political ambitions. The Partnership regularly offers up huge grants to political organizations such as the Legislative Black Caucus. Many point to even more facts such as The Partnership not allowing a public audit which in turn permits the group to have no public accountability of its expenditures of state funds. In 2006, Judge Jaye Bradley, the same judge that awarded Moore the annual $20 million in 2000, vacated her previous decision. Bradley claimed she did not decide against The Partnership because of its inability to perform but because she believes that the state legislature is the only body that can legally decide how state funds can be delegated. Following the decision, Barbour stated that it says a lot about Judge Bradley “…that she is a strong enough person to have the gumption to vacate her own order. The only way for the state to spend state funding is for the Legislature to appropriate it through the legislative process."[19] After an appeal by Moore, Barbour went on to win a Mississippi Supreme Court battle that prevented the tobacco settlement moneys from funding the program, maintaining that is unconstitutional for a judge to award state proceeds to a private organization. Barbour's lawyer stated The Partnership was "the most blatant diversion of public funds to a private corporation in the history of the state of Mississippi" as The Partnership refuses to allow a state audit of its expenditures of the state's money.[20] J |

Am I the only one who misses the 11th commandment. I am so tired of seeing conservative on conservative hate crimes like above. As for Perry, he is a conservative next to Kay Bailey or John McCain but that is not a ringing endorsement. He has moved strongly to the right since the Obamagedon but he is lacking when it comes to articulating the conservative agenda. We need somebody like Regan who could speak to America in a way they understand and relate to. I had hopes this would be Palin but she appears to be week in foreign policy ( I would still trust her over Obama obviously). I would like to see her adopt a more libertarian foreign policy, this would triangulate anti war liberal support and from the dems who will be tired of watching (what they perceive) Obama act like Bush when it comes to the war(s). By moving to a more isolationist foreign policy she would also move the debate to her strong area, fiscal conservatism. I think with modern technology we are at a point where isolationism may finally be a viable strategy. I remind people, Regan faced the same smears Palin is facing. Don't listen to haters do your own research. Just my 2 cents and I will support the more conservative candidate regardless. |

| I would rank romney above him, and that is not saying much for Romney. He is an ok govenor, but thats it. I cannot forget his support for the toll road naphta super highways until texas votors overwhelmingly shot that down at least for now. Talk about trying to rob the state and its people blind. I do not know enough about Kay Baily H. |

That is a fair and accurate list of his recent transgressions. That said, he's way better than Kay Bailey and Texans know it, which is why he's kicking her ass in early polling. |
|
Rick Perry has recently done his best lately to cozy up to what he thinks his base is, but the truth of the matter is that he hasn't been very well liked in Texas by anybody, for reasons mentioned in previous posts. He won re-election with 39% of the vote against a bunch of nobodies. If someone had run any sort of non-joke campaign against him he would have been toast. He is scrambling for votes now. If you want a clearer view of Rick Perry, go back several years and ignore the last few months. There were also rumors that he was having a gay affair floating around that were persistent enough that he had to have a press conference to dispel, which was rather bizarre. That being said, I will vote for him over Kay Bailey, which says more about my feelings on her than him. |
|
I really, truly, honestly cannot understand why Texans from this board would oppose Rick Perry, but for some mysterious reason they absolutely do and without remorse.
Texans bitch and moan about Rick Perry trying to build a freeway in a state that has the worst traffic congestion that I've ever seen, even though he has a perfect record on gun rights, signed tort reform into law and has implemented other policies that has kept our state economy strong. Meanwhile, Kay Bailout Hutchison completely ignores the will of voters in this state, votes for the largest government spending bill during my lifetime, opens the door for the government to socialize the private sector and Texans can't jump up and down high enough or fast enough to express their excitement over the possibility of voting for her to replace our Governor. It boggles my fucking mind like nothing else, but it is a fact of life in the Lone Star State. Perry would never be electable on a national scale. It'll be 100 years before another Texan takes the White House. It's a DAMN shame too, because Perry would fix the problems in Washington and good, but it just won't happen. So to anyone ever planning on running for state office in Texas, don't you EVER think about trying to build a freeway in this state! It doesn't matter how fast the population is growing, how congested the freeways are, how outdated the transportation system is or what the projected population growth will be, don't EVER think about building a freeway in this state! The people will turn on you like a school of rabid piranhas! |

Too little too late. I just looked up Kay Baily Hutchinson. She just got my vote You like TARP that much do you? I guess his solid 100% pro-gun record and tort reform aren't important to you eh? Doesn't surprise me one bit. People in this state are all a bunch of damn turncoats when it comes to Governor Perry. |

I do not know enough about Kay Baily H. Romney's MA legacy is the healthcare program that's so far in the red,the state isn't going to be able to reimburse any providers until 2010.He's worse than Obama on this one.He also decided all on his lonesome to change the MA AWB from one that mirrored the federal version and would have gone away with the sunset but reckoned that it would be better to be as permanent law. |

Texans bitch when Governor Perry tries to turn functions of the government over to the private sector and they bitch when he institutes government programs. It's un-fucking-believable! Try and update the highways in a state that is the second most populous state in the union with a project 50% population growth along the I-35 corridor over the next 35 years, and the people fucking freak out! | Is he going to get busted for an extra martial affair too? If not, I just might vote for him. Or I might vote for him anyway unless he's stupid enough to send e-mails to his mistress that are intercepted and are read over the radio to the whole world. How humiliating. |

He is not a true conservative, he is a globalist. He's attended at least one Bilderberg meeting. He'll sell you out any chance he gets, as longs as he doesn't think you'll realize it. In any serious political discussion, if you use the words/phrases: Bilderburgers, Council on Foreign Relations or Trilateral Commission, you automatically exclude yourself from being taken seriously. Just an FYI |
| Some here can kiss his balls but not me. Note- WE ALREADY PAID FOR THE DAMN ROADS! That's why we have gas taxes. They gonna stop those? Fuck no! Now toll roads everywhere. Why sell them now. And how the fuck would the NAFTA super highway help our towns? Its limited access so I would have to drive 40 miles to get to cross to the other side (I went to the damn meeting they held so I know this first hand), besides it was not only a highway, it was about 10 fucking railroads and pipelines. I don't want Chinese shit coming in from Mexico going to fuckin Kansas. And for the smartass retort, yes, Perry was invited and did speak in Turkey to the Bilderberg Group. It was in the Houston Chron. Look it up. Just this year. He is no different than any other RINO. I don't trust him. Besides, not so well known but in Texas, the Lt Gov. holds the real power. The way for a law to pass is through him. He sets the agenda for the house and senate. If he does not want something to pass, its toast. And the Lt. Gov can tell the Gov to pound sand and nothing the Gov can do. The other most powerful person is the house leader. They just had a big fight and replaced the old one because he was a prick to too many people. Fuck this and Fuckety Fuck politicians. WJ |

From what I recall, the largest of those companies was based in mexico...like enough of our money doesn't go there already. 4. Have you even bothered to look at the proposed route of the corridor, or the amount of land that would be claimed under eminent domain, or how much of that land is agricultural? Do you even care that some of that land has been in the family's possession for generations? Anything with regard to immigration has to be done at the federal level, period. Congress has the sole power of regulating it, and has chosen not to, in any form. BTW, I voted against Cornyn for his support of TARP. I intend to do the same in the case of Hutchison––and I DO NOT want her as governor. Also, you might want to take note of a previous poster. Perry only won the last election with 39% of the vote...against unknowns in the political arena. He's not well liked for a reason...actually a lot of reasons. |

Palin/Perry 2012!! god I hope not. I wish the RNC would hurry up and get rid of Palin - seriously. As a former Republican consultant, I assure you that it is for the best. We were hitting our heads against brick walls after her Africa comment. Look to Haley Barbour as a continuing rising star. Sorry, but you missed the message. HB is just another insider RINO. We want change all right. The idea of Palin is what will sell to us Joe 6packs. He put another repub insider and you can kiss my rosy red ass. I am solidly a third party voter until the repubs kick out the country club set and represent me. I would not vote for McStain and I damn sure won't come back to the repubs until you give me something to vote for. I just hate RINOs, just as much as I hate liberal dumbasscrats. WJ |

Slap yourself and get back to reality. It will be Romney in 2012. Everyone knows the Republicans need to moderate Plus, he's been fully vetted unlike the rest of the turds that are 'frontrunners'I won't argue about Romney being the favorite in 2012. But, who are the other "frontrunners" you speak of? I can't think of a single Rebublican candidate with a snowball's chance in hell of being elected President (if the election were held today). |

(2007). Tin foil hatted bullshit with tin foil hat bullshit explanations. ETA - If those of you outside of this state will take notice please, then you'll see something interesting here. Texans bitch when Governor Perry tries to turn functions of the government over to the private sector and they bitch when he institutes government programs. It's un-fucking-believable! The guy can't win for losing! Try and update the highways in a state that is the second most populous state in the union with a project 50% population growth along the I-35 corridor over the next 35 years, and the people fucking freak out! 'AT's MA LAY-ND! Try and reduce the cost to taxpayers for maintenance of highways by selling them to private corporations as pay-per-use toll roads and the people freak out! 'AT OL' BOY IS SELLIN' DA FREEWAY! Token opposition to illegal immigration! That's a fucking rich one! I'd like to see what the people would have said if Perry had seized land and billed the taxpayers to build a fucking wall on the border! That list is the stupidest thing I've read in my life. 1. I'm pretty sure we're already taxed to pay for the roads. I seriously doubt Perry has any intention of pushing for a reduction in those taxes. 2. Why should I have to pay for the roads twice? Tax me, then charge me a toll? 3. None of the companies that would be buying the roads are based in the U.S., and none of the workers on those roads would likely be U.S. citizens. OK, so you want the taxpayer to cover the cost of building the roads AND maintaining the roads, without having to pay ANY tolls or have any increases in taxes. Is that about the size of it? Free trade and international commerce is all fine and good, until someone starts talking about selling property in Texas to ferners! Oh, and the company that has been buying our toll roads have been Spanish and Portuguese, not Mexican. The people who would have been displaced by the Trans Texas Corridor would have been compensated at amounts higher than what their land was worth for any land that was taken. It ALWAYS works out that way when the government eminent domains land. The government also has absolutely every right in the world to use eminent domain to build a freeway to say otherwise is ridiculous. And do I care that this land was in families for generations? No I do not! They could have taken the money they were paid by the government as compensation for their property, moved someplace else and been just fine. So let me ask you this, since you're so dead set against eminent domain and taking people's land...how in the FUCK are we supposed to expand our fucking freeways? How are we supposed to relieve the congestion all over this state? The rural populations are declining, the urban populations are exploding, the state population is going to grow by 50%, all of that growth is going to be along the I-35 corridor and there is now way that I-35 is going to accommodate that traffic. What do we do to handle the traffic problems that are coming? We need to do something. It's going to require using land. How do we deal with the infrastructure problems in this state without building roads? Or do you want Dallas to become like LA where people sit on the freeway for 8 hours a day trying to get home from work and the traffic jams create a haze of brown smog that makes the city world famous for it's pollution. |
; wouldn't surprise me if she's on board with some sort of 'universal health care' plan... Anybody that feels its okay to reach in my wallet to pay for someone elses medical bills without my consent is NOT a free market capitalist...
