In all honesty what is or can you expect for range out of a 6.8?  I know what I have read and it seems there are more ways to do a 6.8 then I can imagine.  It seems there has been quite a learning curve here from primer size to barrell twist and chamber size.  I had a 6.5 and thanks to the bizarness of the creator, I doubt it is going far and trying to get ammo is next to impossible.  So I decided to really look into the 6.8 for my next build but would like to know what kind of distance/range can I expect? Accurracy? Etc?
Thanks

Depends on what you want to use it for. Medium sized game (deer, hog) you can reach to 400yds. Paper punching, varmint you can reach further. The link in the post above is a good resource. there has been Bear killed at 160yds and Elk shot at 372yds. (that was also an excellent shot) So it can fit most jobs.

I shoot mine routinely at 400 yards. 20" barrel, either the 110 or 85 barnes SSA ammo.

Much further than that, you do not have the velocity to reliably expand the projectile.  It can and still will perform life ending functions, but not optimally.  Inside that, it works great.   Keep in mind, this is basically a .270 that will fit in your AR, but a little less.  Can your .270 do it?  Then your 6.8 can too, most of the time.  Should you do it is another question.....most shooters can't hit a 12 " disk at 400 yds, first shot, never mind offhand.

I feel you on 6.5.  I built a 50 Beowulf, but I'm thinking long and hard about trading it something else that I can actually find ammo and reloading components for.  Thought about 6.8 for a while, but I've got an SKS that can much of the same, at least at short range.

I was thinking maybe a 44 magnum levergun, maybe even a 45-70 lever.  Or an XCR.  Or an SR556.....

Dammit.  I need more money.
