I have a bottle of Tramadol 50mg tablets in my hand (doesn't say morphine), my dog takes them it works so well for her I may try a few.

Tramadol info is readily available from google.

It's a synthetic analog of morphine, it sits on the morphine receptor.   Widely touted as non-habit forming, but reality is that it is habit-forming, although much less so that morphine.  It's probably the weakest of the narcotic painkillers.  Often prescribed for long-term use because of the lessened addiction potential.  Has same side-effects and warnings as other opioids.

Did that cover it, or what else do you want to know?

It's not even close to morphine; it's a synthetic opioid.

I think it's said to be less addictive, Also, I don't think it's a controlled substance in most of the US, so that should tell you something.

My mother used to take it for her back. She says vicodin works better. I get the feeling it's not very strong, but I have never used it myself.

Basically this. Doctor switched me from Vicodin to Tramadol because he knew I'd be on it for a long time. Tramadol is less addicting, so they can easily prescribe it in higher doses. First bottle I got held 180 Tramadol compared to the 30 Vicodin I was getting.

Why you asking?  Anything with morphine in it is a Schedule 2 controlled substance.  If you don't have a perscription for it...

Buddy of mine called about 20 mins ago wanted me too find out what I could about them, siad the bottle directions was half tab in the day the other at night.
He had been taking 4 lowertab 10's a day. Said he took a whole tramadol early today and it put him in the ditch, not sure if he was drinking on top of it but I imagine  he was.

How do these compare to perk 10,s and the lowercet and lower tab 10's??

He'll get used to them if he just started taking them. I was loopy the first day, but then it really didn't affect me mentally too much. Just a little slow on the reflexes...lol

I never got addicted to them and I've taken them over the course of the last two years.  I take half of one when I'm in pain and it last all day, and the 30 day script last me 3-4 months.  It sounds like an addict, but I do only take them to relieve pain not to get high and I have no desire to take them like I do nicotine.  Tramadol made me the lest fuzzy/loopy of what I tried which is why I have used it.  Loritabs made me loopy as all get out, I really don't like it, cold sweats, shaking and stomache pain if I am going on/off them.  Nasty stuff.  It's just going to depend what and why he needs them.

White and oblong is only one manufacture.  There is another that is a small white round pill.  In either shape, they taste nasty, think BC powder.

This may be why they switched him off the lowertab or lowercet, not sure witch he was perscribed.
He knows I take the lowercets for my back, thought I would know something about the tramadol but this is the first Ive heard of it.
He seems too think the tramadol is stronger, but like I previously mentioned I think hes been drinking pretty hard tonight, hes in his early 60s.

I was given tramadol for my shoulder pain. IT DOESN'T DO SHIT.
Advil actually works much better.

I have a full bottle of it rotting in the cupboard.

Seems to have different effects for people. All it seems to do for me is make the pain tolerable, but I don't feel it in my head at all.

shes 5, but if i Ever catch her in the years to come doing anything she knows better, she will surely get her ASS KICKED.

My buddy is old enough too be my grandfather, he knows i use the computer and wanted me too check it out for him, he said the dr didnt really explain it much and that it seemed stronger than what the dr had already prescribed him.

after searching for it and read a little it seems weak from what he should be use too. Like I said before i'm pretty sure he's drank plenty of high dollar Vodka. this evening , He called me at 12:32am.    and That  is EXTREMELY unusual from his normal bevavior.

I'm sure from his behavor on the earlier he's passed out by now.

Tramadol doesn't have morphine in it. In fact - it technically isn't an opiate IIRC.

The brand name is Ultram

I have chronic pain and eat this stuff like candy. Its supposed to be better on the ol' liver than other drugs.

It works ok - though there are better things out there. There is an extended release - Ultram ER  which I really like because the pain level is less likely to fluctuate through the day.

Yep. Better on your liver - and less likely you are reselling pills.

Depending on what is wrong with you - you might make a cocktail of other drugs to help its performance.

The little round tramadol is less effective than 800 mg of ibuprofen for me. I've taken up to the limt of 3 in a 24hr period and they phased me less than Mt. Dew. Thank God I don't need maintenance level painkillers though!

I've never had any success with Tramadol for pain. Lorcet, Lortab, etc ... those will keep my pain at bay very short term. I'm taking Lortab 10/500 every four hours but could stand to take it every three. Heading to the doctor tomorrow to see about Fentanyl patches or what else is available to me.

I agree, doc gave me a script for it when I first hurt my back.
It did nothing. I went back and told him I might as well take Bayer.
He changed it to Vicoden and that made the pain easier to live with.

The two act entirely differently - and often, synergistically.  Try the ibuprofin AND the tramadol, and see how they work together.

Tramadol is pretty benign. Your buddy really, really shouldn't drink on any pain meds. It can be pretty easy to go from heavy dosed and goofy to overdosed and in respiratory arrest.

There's no morphine in it at all.

1st I heard of it was when it was prescribed for my dogs arthritis.  Vet said it was "doggy morphine."  this was about 4-5 years ago.

Since then, my wife and I have had it prescribed to each us of several times.  I probably 2-300 of them at home right now.

It's no vicodin or percoset, but it works.

Actually tramadol (Ultram, Utlracet) is a synthetic codeine analog.  It has weak mu-opioid receptor activity.  The affinity of tramadol to the mu receptor is 1/6000 of morphine.  The main metabolite of tramdol is however 2 to 4 times more potent than the parent compound, so that might explain some of its pain killing properties.  Tramdol also inhibits serotonin and norepinephrine uptake and stimulates the alpha-2 adrenergic receptor.

FYI, I took tramadol for a few months and found it the worst drug to discontinue.  Withdrawal was worse than with hydrocodone (Vicodin, Lortab), oxycodone (Percocet), or Tylenol 3.  I honestly think the serotonergic and adrenergic activity made withdrawal much worse.  I had no energy.

Careful with the painkillers, you can get a DUI while on this shit. I saw a guy get five years while fucked up on percocet. The judge told him he should have paid attention to the warning label on the bottle.

The wonder drug, I have a permanent prescription to them.

I take them every day or I would not be able to work

Kills the pain and doesn't make you feel stoned

They work better if taken with Tylenol

I take 1 Tramodol and either 1 or 2 Tylenol depending on the pain

Talked too my buddy this evening, he said that he was drinking last night and agreed that was a big mistake.

I told him what all I found out about it on the net, he says hes going back too his dr to see about changing his prescription back too lowercet.

Either way i told him to try and hold off the alcohol while on these meds.

thanks for the info guys.
