Thieves , plain and simple . They don't do anything for you that you can't do for yourself . Most major insurance carriers have identity theft protection built into their policies already , and resolution services are free of charge.

I've heard that the guy who runs it has gotten nailed by identity thieves several times since his stupid "go ahead and try it" ads where he posted his SSN.

He did get nailed, but his monitoring caught it pretty fast for whatever that's worth.  It didn't prevent it.  Not worth what they charge, that's for sure.

I sense a consensus. Thanks, then.

Call or email one of the big 3 credit and have them put you on a fraud alert.  From what I understand that is all they do for you and its free to do yourself. The deal with the stopping of junk mail is a web site called opt out . Just sign up and the credit card offers stop. I did it and have not seen any in awhile. The wife did not and still gets 2 or 3  a week. Here are the links,

He got sued by at least one of the credit reporting companies for charging for services that the credit agencies had to provide for FREE BY FEDERAL LAW . His company is just a go between that makes a couple of phone calls for you.... in return for a monthly fee of coarse. After they make the phone calls , they do pretty much nothing and continue to collect your cash.
