Benjamin Cardoza.  Family originally from Spain, fled to Holland to avoid the Inquisition.  DEFINITELY Hispanic.  Who appointed him?  President Hoover.   1932-1938.

But the Hispanics disown him because his family was Jewish.  Nice to see the Hispanics are bigots.

From Spain or more properly, from the Iberian Pennisula to include Portugal. Also the Canary Islands. Speaking a Latin-based language (Portugese have a stronger tie here, no Moorish influence).

That he not only HAD the name, his family also came from Spain. That he was also of Jewish heritage means NOTHING. There are still Jews living in Mexico from the Inquisition days. Being Catholic is everything. My wifes family are all Catholic but are of Sephardic Jewish ancestry. The stigma was so great in Spain, that they left for the new world and reinvented themselves as Catholics, dropping their Jewish faith.

Under affirmative action guidelines all one needs to be considered "Hispanic" is a Spanish surname.

If Mr. Cardoza was alive today and wanted to apply for government affirmative action assistance he would be eligible to receive it.

I had a friend by the name of Diaz, of pure Spanish heritage, and he parlayed affirmative action for all it was worth during his tenure as a mid ranking government employee.

Actually, Spain was much lighter before the Moors.  Since the Moors didn't sail out of sight of land (very superstitious), they never made it to the Canary Islands.  But they are solidly Hispanic and always Spanish Islands.  Canary Islanders are very light skinned, blue eyed.
