For the past few months after eating certain foods, like Chinese or from diners or buffets, I have gotten SEVERE stomach problems about 15 - 30 minutes after eating....
It doesn't happen if I cook food myself, or eat bland food... My fiance thinks I am like dying and wants me to go to the doctor, I think I may have developed a sensitivity to MSG or something else.... Anyone had similar things happen to them? Its not a wheat allergy, I grind wheat for bread weekly.... ETA: Before anyone calls dibs on guns, shes gettin em all LOL |

Chow Lan asked if I wanted more
As he was dialing up his buddy at the old pet store I said, "Not today, I've lost my appetite. There's two cats in my belly and they want to fight." I was suckin' on a Rolaids and a Tums or two, When I swear I heard it mew, boys And that was when I knew. There's a cat in the kettle at the Peking Moon I think I gotta stop eating there at noon. They tell you that it's beef or fish or pork But there's Garfeild on my fork It's purrin' here on my fork... |

probably just an ulcer from stress..
you aren't allergic to MSG,you don't have ADD,you aren't lactose-intolerant,you aren't hypoglycemic,etc.. you just got a hole in your stomach...eat a goody's powder...drink coffee..let the pain motivate you and keep you warm at night |

It may be the MSG. My Dad developed it... we used to eat chinese food all the time when I was
a kid. We stopped going and it was b/c my Dad couldn't hack the MSG anymore. It tore his guts up bad... he only ever eats chinese at PF Changs now.... they are MSG free. -ZA |

Quoted: no but really, back on topic, anybody had similar things go on? Try taking something like Align. I take an antacid that has screwed up my digestive system and Align has helped alot to get things back on track. YMMV and good luck. |

I get an allergic reaction to Maple Flavoring (not real maple).
(I've had it happen 3 times to me) I eat it and about 15-30 minutes later I start vomiting, get severe diarrhea and the shakes and sweats (feel like you want to die). A few hours later I'm 100% fine. My daughter just found out the hard way a few weeks ago that she too shares the same allergic reaction to Maple Flavoring. Some people laugh because I smell everything before I eat it, but I never want to have happen again. |
|
Thats exactly what happens to me minus the vomitting

I pretty much stopped eating all fast food. I think some of it is the oils they use. |

The reaction makes you so sick you think you are going to die. It is more like being poisioned. |
| Before you blame MSG and not the crappy food itself, check what other foods bother you. A lot of common snack foods have MSG and most people don't notice because they assume only Chinese cooking uses it. Doritos, Cheetos, KFC, many salad dressings, cheese powders, etc. have MSG in them. If you can eat those things without an issue, it isn't the MSG. |

OK folks. There is zero evidence that MSG causes anything other than stuff tasting yummy! Even people that claim to be MSG sensitive don not have issues under blind taste tests when they don't know they've eaten it. Other people who think they have eaten MSG will claim to have symptoms even though none is ingested. Glutamic acid is naturally found in so many foods that you eat it everyday.
As some others have said the symptoms likely point to gall bladder or liver issues when eating greasy foods such as Chinese or fast food. |

MSG is BAD!
lots of foods have msg but asian foods like PHO / grilled vietnamese meats, Chinese buffets, etc have higher amounts of MSG than usual Ive seen the cooks in asian restaurants grab a scoop of MSG and throw it in the food no measuring, sometimes they added too much. PHO has lots of MSG, they dont have time to make it the old fashioned way so they add lots of MSG and beef bullion to make it easier. sometimes your lucky and dont get an MSG overdose, but if you get too much it will cause the typical symptoms, like drosiness, headaches, runny nose, sneezing, sickness, thirst, etc I can usually feel the effecdts of MSG within 10 minutes after eating, usually causes headaches and a slight buzz, drowsyness. I almost fell asleep at the wheel after having too much MSG yes, lots of foods have MSG, but some asian restaurants tend to use a little more than usual |

| You need to see a doctor and be tested for the bacteria that causes most ulcers. There could be a few other things going on, some of them serious. The tests are routine and not super expensive. If you do have an ulcer it can be treated and even cured, but you don't want to let this kind of stuff go unchecked. |

I got the same thing going on here, but i fight the vomitting. My girlfriend said it's h-papiloma or something like that. its bacteria in your stomach and they test you by having you blow in a bag, then they test the air. Wierd but she says its normal. She was an LPN for a while and saw a bunch of stuff.
On a different note, Boondock Saints is one of my favorite movies |

I also noticed after not eating take out foods for a long time I became more sensitive to MSG
if you eat in restaurants regularly your body gets use to the MSG and the effects are milder than a person that doesnt eat take out food / restaurant foods all the time. I eat lots of home cooked meals and know exactly what goes into the food, I control the amount of seasonings. |
