I've got two USDA Prime grade ranch steaks, a bag of red potatoes, mushroom soup, an onion, some corn or green beans. I need help coming up with a meal.

Quarter those red potatoes and onions and toss them in some oil and spices and roast them in the oven. Grill those steaks to medium-rare over a hot charcoal fire. Serve with the veg.

What particular spices would be the best? Simple with pepper, salt, and some garlic maybe?

Yeah, that's an easy call right there.

If those steaks are prime and not choice, they don't need a rub or marinade. If they are choice, I like a little montreal steak and some soy sauce.

If you have it, garlic bread powder. That with salt and pepper = win
And instead of oil, try a stick or two of butter.

That's a shoulder cut and probably better with a marinade, but it won't be ready by tonight.  Some combo of soy sauce and worcester is what I like with some onion or garlic powder and a little vineagar.  For a rub, maybe some of the garlic or onion powder and some cayenne pepper and black pepper, touch of salt...but don't overcook it because it's kind of a tough cut.

anyone heard of letting steaks sit in a marinade/brine solution for a little while before grilling?

tried it the other day..  marinated for 12 hrs.. and then the last hour set them in cool/cold salt water solution

OMG..

i thought you had to boil the potatoes first before you baked them... makes them softer
