I just bought a Dell Insperon NetBook (So far I like it) But it has no optical drive. I know there is a way to transfer the files from a CD so I load programs via USB port. What is the process?

Thanks.

If this is something you will do often, you may want something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/External-Slim-CD-ROM-Drive-Black/dp/B000YQSKPM

personally, I'd just buy a large capacity flash drive and transfer the cd to flash drive on another computer, then transfer the flash drive to your netbook.

I was wanting to do a transfer as described, but just copy, pasting the files is not working, I cant open the files transfered to the flash drive. If I recall, there is a set of steps to make a working transfer.

Double tap

hold the CD directly over the touch pad, slowly spin the disk and it should work as long as you have all your windows updates.

btw, that cd-rom listed above sucks. Newegg.com has one for $30 and is a DVD dual layer drive, by Samsung

yeah, that would be copy protection

there are ways around it which are in the gray areas as far as legality goes

I suggest you simply buy an external drive- external cd/dvd drives are cheap, external cd/dvd readers/writers are not more (newegg is a good place to order)

Dude - create an effin' "image" of the CD from a PC with an optical drive, then move it to your netbook via a USB storage device, mount the image, and bam.  Check and mate.

If you have your home network set up with a router, you can also share an optical drive on another computer.  That should allow you to install whatever you need.

For the computer challenged, that would be done how?
