It really depends on the degree of rust, if there is pitting, et cetera.  I have a rifle I inherited from my Grandfather and am just going to have the gunsmith refinish it when I take it in to get a spring replaced.

At least you don't have to throw them down the driveway now.

Seriously though, maybe take it to a gunsmith and see what he says.

Like the above poster said, it all depends on how much damage there is.  You might be able to work off the rust with a good brush, CLP, and some elbow grease, or just have a gunsmith refinish it.

This ^. I've used a light, 3 in 1, type oil with the steel wool with good results also.

You should've at the least referenced the type of firearms and made an effort to reference the extent and location of the affected areas.

Stainless steel wool works best for removing rust & won't remove the blueing like regular 0000 steel wool can.

ETA:
Stainless steel wool

It's cheaper at Wally World.

How much rust?  What kind of finish is currently on them?  What kind of guns?  Are these guns collectible such that refinishing them would decrease their value?

Pics would help the collective give the best solution.

WD40 and the wool sounds like your best bet so far.

You can also use KROIL and 0000 Stainless steel wool and after that go to a gun smith if there is more rust than you can remove and polish off.
