Anyone here have/had one and had to go through the surgery?

I was run off the road last thursday evening by a couple of kids in a PU. I was on the MC.

The truck was oncoming in a sharp turn on a tar and chip road, I was alright till I hit the wash from a gravel driveway and the traction went to heck, might as well have been ice.

Slammed pretty hard on my right side and got a good bit of rash.
No I didn't have a jacket on(it was 85*+) and pants were shredded.
Forearm, shoulder, back, hip, thigh, knee and calf. Ruined the right boot on a pair that were only a week old.

Nothing on the right side of the bike went undamaged, including the windshield and bars.
Dealer est. at this point is >$8300.

Biggest problem right now is the sharp pain in the top/front of my shoulder.
Osteo Doc says AC joint or likely RC damage. MRI with dye on Monday.

BTW, no the kids did not stop. That peeves me off more than anything.

And of course, the wife is frantic about the whole situation especially since we were just at a funeral for a friend/HOG Member who was killed while riding down to OBX only a few short weeks ago, Karen Fortener.

Sorry guy's no pics. Bike got hauled to the dealer and I've only looked at it once briefly since.

BTWx2, any suggestions for the road rash? Leg is healing up well but my forearm is refusing to stop bleed/oozing.

I just went thru shoulder surgery it wasn't rotator cuff but torn labrum and that is exactly where my pain was coming from.
Ice might help it feel better for now hopefully it's not serious good luck

Currently recovering from shoulder surgery.

You'll hurt worse after the surgery.

Enjoy!

Exactly what I've heared from others I know who have had it.
The doc said I would need surgery eventually, so I'm just waiting till' I have no choice.

It does not sound like fun.

Tore some muscles around my rotator cuff.  My shoulder would seize up and I'd look like a lopsided hunchback.  Got back most of my strength and range of motion with exercise.  Surgery has a chance to relieve some of the pain, but there are always range of motion and strength losses.  YMMV.

Yep, been there and going back again.  Truthfully, not that bad. Get a competent surgeon, follow all therapy, and do as he says, you should be GTG.
I was back to work in 2 weeks and released from therapy in 1 month. I am far from super human, but to seem to heal welll

Then I fell and tore the labriim off everywhere it was not repaired. So I have 3/4 of my shoulder unsupported now. Been like this for a year, just waiting for time to take the time off from work, I am not dreading the surgery as much as being how with the wife for 2 weeks.

Now about that MRI with dye.   Most people have it shot in an IV through their body from what I understand.  They were doing mine localized. Needle in, bang around, hit bone a few times, take xray, repeat 4 times until happy with location No BS that was the worst pain I've ever felt. Have them knock you out if that's what they are going to do. My the time they were done with the dye injection and I was going to the MRi tube, I was so pissed and in so much pain I thought I was going to choke a nurse. Oh yeah FTMRIT (fuck the mri tube)

Hope yours goes better. An IV injection and open MRI would have been like a trip to heaven.

when they put the dye in my shoulder the tech set up the x-ray and the doctor stuck the needle into the socket piece of cake. The key is to make sure you get a good doctor my first one was a jerkoff.

I have had a SLAP (labrum) repair and bicep tenodesis on my right shoulder.
Best advice is to get "the block" when you see the anesthesiologist.

Had rotator cuff surgery as well as reparing a few torn muscles in my right shoulder. The recovery period is very long and painful and I often felt like I was going to have a "disabled" shoulder for the rest of my life.

I was out of work 18 months.

Yeah, I was out of work for 2 months but it really has taken a year to be near normal again.

I got mine done about 10 years ago.  Too much pain to sleep.  After a couple weeks it was better than it had been in years.

As seen through the scope.

I tore mine but never had surgery, the doctor said I tore it about a dozen times judging by the amount of scar tissue I had (weightlifter). I rehabbed it instead of surgery, it took years of pt but now it is stronger than it was before. Painful process but was well worth it.

I have a shoulder that's like a maracca.

Surgery in my future, for sure.

And a disability pension, as well.

Fuck it... Aleve and bourbon... "Nature's Painkiller".

Sorry to hear that you went down like that. I ride a hayabusa and it seems that nobody seems to look at all. Anyway I live in AZ and I always wear a jacket (nice polymesh with armor) that breathes so I dont get very warm at all. About that shoulder, be careful with that. I have been fighting off getting surgery on my left shoulder and to tell you the truth that dumb thing sometimes hurts from the moment that I get up till I try to sleep. If they offer you surgery, do your homework so that you dont nd up worse off than you were to begin with. This hapenned to a buddy of mine and he has had problems since. I hope you get to feeling better!

Same here, except, I felt better the next day. The pain was different, but I could actually lay on my back, without the pain I experienced for the last year.

I got ran off the road by a big truck and rolled my car back in 2006.  I had to have rotator cuff surgery and 3 anchors put in, in addition to neck fusion surgery.  I couldn't even pick my arm up.  I didn't think the surgery or recovery was painful at all, a lot of people do.  I have noticed that the arm that had surgery will get weak easier than the other if that makes sense.  I can the PT test no problem and got back on flight orders so I can't complain.

Yep.

I was a cheerleader in college and because I was so small I was always the one thrown about for basket tosses, etc. Well, I came down wrong in practice and destroyed my shoulder. Wound up having surgery a few years ago on it and it's probably one of the best decisions I've made. My pain went from an ongoing level of about 6 to a 1 ... and that's after I swim or lift weights at the gym only. The rest of the time I'm okay with it.

I hope you feel better. I'm very sorry to hear about your accident. If they offer you rehabilitation on your shoulder please go. Take it seriously.

Get well soon.

The MRI will tell everything you need to know.
I partially tore both shoulders within 3 months of each other (doing pushups for the first, then slipped on a runningboard and tried to twist to get a grab-handle to protect the injured shoulder), opted against surgery and 5 years later my joints get sore/lock-up if I do not stretch regularly but other than that they're fine.

I thought I  had torn my RC.  A chiropractor had offered a free visit, and I thought 'what the heck' and went.  I was not a believer in the back crackers at that point.

Turns out, my 'torn RC' was a pinched nerve in my neck.  Go figure.

Might be worth looking into.
