I haven't tried much, hard liquor or beer. But I can't find anything that agrees with my taste buds.

Um... shit.... considering you are not a drinker, pick up a 6 pack of bud light lime.... i do not recommend posters that suggest bourbon or whiskey to a newbie.

The only alcohol I really liked the taste of gave me a headache the next morning (girly stuff like Seagram's Golden wine coolers, as well as Bartles & James "Very Berry" or somesuch).  As I don't care for anything else I just stick with things like milk, lemonade, and soda.  Root beer is REALLY good.

Then I guess you haven't tried Allen's coffee brandy with whole milk. It's the state of Maine beverage... Gauranteed to make you beat the kids, put on 45 lbs, rot your teeth and have the uncontrollable urge to drop half of your welfare check on scratch tickets.

It is good stuff though

Wow, good job!

Edit to add:  Your "don't start" and the other mentions of having to learn to like booze ("acquired taste") reminds me of why I never started––anything I have to "learn to like" just isn't worth it.  I smoked a cigarette when I was 14 and got REALLY dizzy and lightheaded––as in staggering around in a stupor.  I figured if you had to work that hard to like it, then I don't want it.  Same with coffee and tea (blech!).  Now sex, I liked that right off.  Same with shooting.  And fishing.  And fondling large breasts.  Those things just come natural.

I learned a while ago that drinking until you can't stand or see straight is baaaaaaaaaad.

It's a shitty feeling when you put down your last drink but know you're going to be getting a lot more drunk.

Try Kahula or Bailey's over ice cream if you have a sweet tooth.  Awesome.  Layered, then topped with Gran Marnier and you have the sweet-tooth B52 shooter.  Top it with Everclear and set it on fire?  B52, Hanoi style
...I know, sick joke and IT IS JUST A JOKE, SENATOR McCain!

Then graduate to a GOOD Irish Whiskey.

Then Scotch.

DO NOT try Southern Comfort.  Nasty.

Kahlua, Disaronno, Bailey's, are all freakin' delicious.

When I was drunk already and tasted Captain Morgan's Spiced rum in Coke, I thought it tasted like heaven. For some reason, it didn't taste as good when sober.

Fuck yeah!  ROOT BEER!!!

I had two shots of Southern Comfort and couldn't figure why anyone would willingly drink that shit.  If it's an acquired taste then I'm not interested

Try Pabst.  If that is too touchy to your taste buds, try Smirnoff Ice.

I guarantee you won't even know it's alcohol, until you've had your 12th one and you're starting to feel drunk.  I personally like the Raspberry one, however I don't buy them because it would be gay.

I remember my first encounter with the hard stuff.I was 15and I had been drinking the flavored smirnoffs and decide to get a mid sized bottle of the watermelon vodka. A couple hours later and everthing tasted good

For the record it is like candy by itself, makes on hell of a screwdriver, and doesnt mix well with coors,
or the chicken dinner you had prior to all of this

Most tastes that you did not experience as a child take some getting used to - this applies to both food and drink, and not just alcoholic ones.

It's hard to find somebody that doesn't appreciate Walker Blue (it's a blend, but it's goes down like Kool Aid), but it's an expensive gamble if you don't end up liking it.

1st, dont go cheap.  I like gin with tonic and lime, tanguray(sp), beefeaters is decent, bombay saffire...
Rum, Myers Dark Rum is my fav liquer so far, i gotta find some good, dark rum somewhere.
whiskey, jack is actually great for the price, if you want really good whiskey, dont buy the crown hype, gentleman's jack trumps it in every aspect.
vodka, i hear belvedere is really good, not a big vodka fan myself though.  absolute is decent.
tequila.... oh boy, tequila is either really good or terrible, no middle ground.  if you get it, spend your money, patrone is good, cuervo black is good, 1800.

i recommend that you try them and find what you like, i prefer my liquer straight on the rocks or chilled.

How much does a bottle of that stuff go for, anyway?

I am on a doctor imposed 9 month dry spell, and really good whiskey may be in the cards for me once the option returns.

Hey best of luck to ya but the answer to this question is usually discovered before graduating High School... don't mean to be a dick.

If you're just starting out stick with malt beverages, your liver will thank you if you live to be over 30.  If you wanna start out hard anyways, stick with something relatively good and clean like Crown... it's expensive for a reason.

beer and liquor are like coffee, it's an acquired taste.

I used to hate the way beer tasted... Some beers still do taste like shit (because they are).  I didn't like beer until I was 21 and only had like 4$ cash and asked the bar tender what I could get to fuck me up for 4$( GF at the time went to bed at 10pm, I didn't go to bed until 1am... wtf am I supposed to do for 3 hours???... Bar)... Lucky me, they had tall drafts on special for 2$ ea.  I choked the first one down, waited a few, started buzzing, then had the second... WOW.  Now I knew what I was missing.  The more beer I tried, the more I liked.  Now I just like the taste, especially after a day of work in a hot factory.  Ice cold, and smooth.  I prefer MGD, many of my friends prefer Bud Light, but I found MGD to be better filling.  I hate hard lemonade (heartburn) and wine coolers (tastes like shit).

Liquor, I try to stay away from it, it will mess you up unless you have some really good self control.  I will have a burbon every now and then (in a glass... warm... no ice).  It is better when winter is here and everything is so damn bitter cold.  Warms me up a bit.  Burbons (whiskeys) are strong tasting straight.  Some people like to mix cola with it, I hate the way it gives me heartburn (I don't drink coke/pepsi/cola at all), so I sip it straight.  The only thing I can tell you is if you are mixing it, don't bother with expensive liquors.  Just get the cheap stuff... you won't taste the difference.  If you want to try something that tastes sweet, get a bottle of Parrot's Bay rum (coconut or banana flavored).  Stay away from gin.  It is very dry and sour if you have never had it.  It's better if you use tonic water, but even then it is overly strong.  Most people do well with a rum and coke.

These are MY feelings on liquor.  Everyone reacts differently and likes different things.  That's why I keep a pretty full liquor cabinet with a wide variety for when I have my closest friends over.  I have a few bottles that cost me a good bit, but they are not there for every day casual drinking, usually come out on the holidays, special occasions, and usually they will really get you lit quick.  I prefer whiskey over all over liquors for this type of drinking (scotch and burbon).

Tequilla is dirty.  No other way for me to describe it.  It burns, makes your face look funny after a shot, and it really just tastes like shit.  The only stuff I will drink of that devils water is Cobo Wabo- chilled at that.  God just thinking about it makes me want to vomit.  Good party drink, but for personal times, not good.

BTW, wine tastes like shit.  All of it.  100%... shit.  The only time I will drink that shit is after I have already had 3-4 beers and I just finished eating... Otherwise, fuck that shit... Hangover city.

I need to grab another beer.

Alcohol usually makes me feel really sick. Anything more than one beer and I feel like crap. I do sometimes have a single beer on a special occasion, but anything more than that would be overdoing it for me. I have something like 3-4 per year.

Works very well too.

Captain Morgan Tattoo rum and Coca Cola mixed together tastes just like Dr. Pepper.
