Seems to depend heavily on the existing location of "filled" in dots. The more open the map is the harder (impossible?) it is.

I don't see how it's possible. The cat simply has too many options to block them all. Maybe if you got lucky and some of the pre-filled dots were in a great location.

eta: ok so its not impossible i managed to trap that little bastard finally, but you do have to be set up pretty good with dots. I just started clicking dots on the very outside ring then filled them in depending on which direction he went and finally got his ass!!! to bad there is not a terminate button after you trap him

I can catch the cat about 50% of the time, place blocks as far away as you can at the start spacing them two holes apart (ie a 1 hole gap between two blocks) and if you have luck with a couple of starting blocks you will catch it, the key is staying ahead of it not chasing it.

Thanks for ruining my afternoon.

Don't close up escape routes before you have to.

Avoid building a wall by placing a block beside the last one you laid. Instead disperse easy connected points that can be closed as necessary.

Attempt to influence the course of the cat while dispersing your blocks.

I don't remember exactly. A couple probably.

I placed a few of the blocks that are not part of the trap (outside the trap) to encourage him into the trap.

I got pretty lucky to get him in so few though.

It's randomly higher or lower difficulty, depending on how many dark green spots you start off with.
