It's like Coca-cola with a Pepsi taste.
Just kidding. It's not spectacular. No wow factor. Not bad. Just seemed to be an over-hyped carbonated beverage.
Crystal Pepsi was awesome. Sorry about the e in Pepsie. My bad. |

Went to get more, and there was one case left...
and the distributor was loading it up to take it back. He told me they've taken a ton of it back, nobody bought it. Hopefully your areas have had better sales because if the results here are typical... we're never going to see a full-time run of sugar soda from Pepsi Co. |

I have thus far been unimpressed with the Throwback Pepsi. For some reason, the taste is different than that of Passover Pepsi (also made with real sugar). Maybe its just my tastebuds, as I can taste the difference between Pepsi from a can, 20oz plastic, and 2 lt bottle. I really liked Passover Pepsi as it only came in the 2 Lt bottle. Throwback comes in the cans and 20oz plastic, which has a whole different taste. I'll just have to wait another month of so when I can order Mexican Pepsi in the glass bottle. |

I think it actually tastes better than standard Pepsi...since nobody here sells the Mexican Coke anymore, ( Yeah.... no. This was a limited time, limited area deal. Well shit, back to PowerAde then
Does PowerAde contain HFCS? I was hoping the Throwback would be popular. Unfortunately, they went with a very different recipe. It doesn't taste like Pepsi/Coke these days. It reminds me of RC Cola back when it came in longnecks. People taste the Throwback and wonder "WTF is this stale???" The Mountain Dew is better IMO, very similar to Mello Yello. I think the TB Pepsi is just too odd by today's standards... and unfortunately the attempt at "sugar soda" appears to fail, albeit for very different reasons than one would think. Make Passover or Mexican Coke/Pepsi full time and I bet it would sell well. That's not what they did here.

Crystal Pepsi was awesome. Sorry about the e in Pepsie. My bad. I had it for the first time yesterday. First drink was meh. Then I kept drinking. After a while I started to appreciate the "clean feeling" that I was getting. There wasn't the typical gritty teeth feeling you get from cola with HFCS. All in all I like the soda with real sugar. lunyou |

Pepsi Throwback tasted lifeless to me. Almost like it's missing something or like a diet soda. Passover Coca-Cola was off the hook. Exactly. And one more thing... I don't know how many people would agree with me on this... but whenever they come out with Pepsi Lime, or Vanilla Coke, or Pepsi Zero, or Mountain Dew Code Red, or Dr. Pepper Pineapple, It tastes like SHIT! So whenever I see something "New" I normally pass it right by, as I know it'll be shitty. How many people have this aversion to "New" and didn't even bother to try Throwback? If it wasn't for the natural sugar instead of HFCS, I would'nt have bought it. |
| I'm really not looking forward to the day that they don't sell this stuff anymore. It's really good.. I grew up in a Pepsi household and don't drink it anymore because I don't like it. Now that they have this Throwback stuff on the market I'm liking it again and buying lots of it. The Mountain Dew is pretty good too. |

Went to get more, and there was one case left... and the distributor was loading it up to take it back. He told me they've taken a ton of it back, nobody bought it. The local grocery chain (Stop&Shop) had all Pepsi on sale 2 wks ago week, including the Throwback. The 12 can suitcases were being sold for 5 for $11. They had it stacked on pallets on the store floor. I bought 7 Pepsi and 3 Mt Dew (all they had in 3 nearby stores). I went back last week. 2 stores had no throwback remaining, the 3rd store had only 2 cases of the Pepsi and the Pepsi guy was in the aisle ordering more stuff to restock the shelves. I asked him and he said that the Throwback is outselling everything else they have. They are completely out of MT. Dew and whatever Pepsi that remains is on the trucks being delivered, and it is not much. Although they were supposed to sell the Throwback until around Jun 15, they ran out 3 weeks sooner than they expected and he doesn't know if they will be making any more. The Mt Dew sold out 4 weeks sooner than they expected. He did say that it would not surprise him if they continue to bring it back periodically, based on popularity, but he can't say for sure as Pepsi doesn't care what he thinks. He said he hasn't seen anything sell this quickly before. Even before it was on sale, it was flying off the shelves, but once it was put on sale, they couldn't keep the shelves stocked. |

People taste the Throwback and wonder "WTF is this stale???" They didn't go with a different recipe, they went with a version of the recipe they used in the 50's & 60's, before they started using HFCS, hence the name "Throwback". If you compare the ingredients between the Throwback and Today's HFCS version, you'll see some significant differences. One example is with the Mt. Dew. The current HFCS recipe contains Orange Juice, while the Throwback version does not. I don't know if the recipe changes were required because of the use of HFCS instead of sugar, but it shows how the products changed over the years. They still don't taste the same as what I drank as a kid in the 60's, but it is much, much closer. Even the Throwback isn't an exact version as it uses "Natural Sweeteners". Rumor has it that this 'Natural Sweetener' is either beet sugar, or a combination of beet and cane sugar, where the original stuff had pure cane sugar. In any case, to me, the Throwback has a much lighter, cleaner taste. If you pour it into a glass, you can see that the natural sweetener has smaller carbonation bubbles, which gives you a completely different feel when you drink it. Even my wife, who is not a soda drinker, actually likes both the Pepsi and Mt Dew Throwback versions, but she still has to buy her own. She can't have any of my cache. Now, if they put it in the old style cans with the pull-tabs, the time-warp would be complete. |

Cherry-Vanilla Dr Pepper was FUCKING AWESOME. And so, of course, they no longer make it. More on the subject - has anyone tried Pepsi "Natural"? I know it's meant to appeal to the green-hippie crowd, but I was wondering how it is, as it is made with sugar instead of HFCS too and actually comes in glass bottles to boot. |

I tried the Pepsi Natural. It sucks IMHO. It is a lot more expensive than throwback too. Throwback = good Natural = bad |
