I'm starting think we'd be better off if it did

| Only if you like a warlord state. I don't mind if the states peacefully seceded, but I wouldn't want another civil war. Unlike the Russians when they collapsed, we're soft. Mentally tough, the Soviet era Russians are used to long lines, setbacks, disappointments and substandard conditions. We scream when our cable or satellite dish goes down. They not only continued to work to survive after their government collapsed, some went out and got second jobs. We get upset if we have to wait too long in line to order our grab 'n go food at a drive-in. We're much less literate, more uncivil and more violent prone than our grandfathers were when the Great Depression hit. When the water tap doesn't work because the water plant guys are tired of not being paid, when the food doesn't get delivered from the farms because the farmers are tired of not being paid or being paid worthless script for their products, when what food trucks get mobbed by gangs who monopolize the food (think Somalia) for power and control, are you sure you want SHTF? |

| I hate how everyone goes ape shit everytime someone says somthing like this. Some -not all- people would really be ok in some shtf situations. Me personally.. I would hate to lose how easy my life is... My solution to getting away from the stupid that people create? Get an ass load of land...and disappear as much as you can whenever you feel like you may snap. |

And yes, raw land is the foundation of that lifestyle. |

What is this we shit? I don't have a problem if my cable, power, internet, phone service, etc. goes out. I've worked in fast food, I have no problem waiting 5-10 minutes in line (sure it's a little aggravating but it's aggravating everywhere else too, I don't get pissed over it). I don't have enough skills, guns, ammo, medical supplies, food, water, gear, etc. yet though, so I'm not okay with the shit hitting the fan yet. I've already made peace with the idea that it will most likely happen in my lifetime. Most of my family feels the same way. The thought that I might have to fight for something I believe in doesn't bother me at all. I think the people that think of the bigger picture would be okay, it's the retards that only think far enough ahead to DVR the next episode of American Idol that would be wiped out. And I can't really say I think that's too bad of a thing.

No we would not be better off. Agreed. We would not be better off. Wars and revolutions are really horrible. Unimaginably horrible. I try to be prepared for SHTF, but I pray my preparations are a waste of time and money. I don't want to try out my SHTF preparations any more than I want to try out my fire extinguishers and smoke alarms, or my seat belts and airbags. |

It would be a freaking nightmare Like what we have now isn't? I firmly believe it's coming. And the more Shitstain throws tax money at the wrong things, the sooner it is going to happen. It sucks, but what we are experiencing now is like "The Death of a Thousand Cuts". These people are ruining this great country. LC |

| 90% of the folks would not make it one week with out all the comforts of home, running water and food. I bet a lot of people here have never killed, skinned, cleaned and cooked an animal in the wild. I thank god my dad taught me all about hunting from a very early age. You can have all the guns and ammo you want but if you don't know shit about hunting you are pretty well f**Ked. |

I'm starting think we'd be better off if it did ![]() Mkay, lets paint the picture if it happened... What SHTF scenario do you want? Civil rebellion against the federal government: If the military does not take your side, you will be fighting against the best equipped, trained, and technologically advanced fighting force in the world. Nuff said... Does take a side with the people, life will be much easier. Government collapse: Mass looting, hysteria, your house wont be safe, your car wont be safe, your life wont be safe, gangs will control the cities, if there is a military left it will be instructed to end any violence (military will shoot US citizens), and much much more. Economical collapse: We are trading chickens and cows again, people are starving... Think of Germany after WW1 Want some more? |

Ever spend any time in third world shitholes? Yes, I've been to Haiti, the Dom. Rep., Panama, Mexico, SE Asia, and most of Europe (OK, that was pretty nice). Were you a tourist in those countries, did you have a room with clean water and hot food waiting for you after you saw the sights during the day or did you have to actually get your hands dirty and live like the people do in some parts of those countries. It sure would be great if "The Revolution" only lasted a couple of weeks and the people could all agree to live together peacefully right? |

Did you sleep in a comfortable bed last night? Enjoying your internet access? Take a shower this morning? How worried are you about the quality of your drinking water today? Wearing clean clothes? Going to eat again today? Tomorrow? Next week? If you manage to break your leg today, how long will you be without healthcare? Any roaming bands of pillagers in your neighborhood recently? When you took your last shit, did you carry it out in a bucket, or just press a little lever and watch it disappear? How strong are your acute concerns about dysentery and such? I've lived through nightmares. I have a hard time taking someone seriously when they're sitting in front of a computer surfing the net with everything I've outlined above while they claim to be living in the middle of one. "Oh no, we're in a recession and the political landscape is screwy! Oh the humanity of it all!" |

I'm starting think we'd be better off if it did ![]() No, we wouldn't. No matter what ou think a SHTF scenario is NEVER a good thing.... I know I would end up dieing. I don't have any ammo, or hunting/survival skills. The only thing I got going for me is that I can grow and maintain a garden without miracle grow and packets of seeds. |

oh and cable.. and of course the net , gotta have the net. and walmart must stay open .. and that place down the street ,, they have some bad ass tacos. oh.. and gas must be pumping at any and all gas stations.. ( and if there is price gouging.. im out ) and the highways must remain clear, other then that ,, hell yeahs bring on SHTF!! |

Cyrus, there's no real reason to not have a modicum of preps. You've identified a shortcoming in your overall insurance picture. Take the next step and fix it. I don't expect the SHTF. I don't expect a structure fire either, but I have smoke alarms and home owners insurance. Setting yourself up to be reasonably self sufficent for a few weeks just isn't that difficult or costly. But yeah, I agree with you - anyone who thinks SHTF would be a good thing is just a tad off base. |

We are having SHTF. A relentless decline in standard of living and freedom. Too slow to be noticed by Sheeple and too boring to be exciting for violence junkies. Tell me more about this relentless decline in the standard of living and freedom. Oh, and why did you stop posting in the swine flu thread? |

Could survive it - unless some sniper took us out.
Live rural Have 3 acre pond stocked with fish with lakes all around and friends who have houses on them. Lived out in the wild before for weeks at a time. Have excellent health with no meds needed. Have some food stocked about 30 days. Have ample supply of Ammo. Main thing I would worry about is roving bands and not having enough sentries to alert of an impending ambush. Need lots of trust worthy people for safety in numbers. If things get real bad like total Law and Order breakdown, even a SF soldier will not survive alone for long. I think what will really happen is America just becomes poorer as Obama and all the other socialists take from producers and redistribute. It will be a slow death into living with less. Like soviet Russia where a doctor lived same as plumber, in a 500 sqft apartment w/o much in the way of services. |

LOL! Even Lootie is in on this one! |

Come on, AR, explain this "relentless decline in standard of living' to me. I even did the leg work for you; http://www.census.gov/prod/2008pubs/p60-235.pdf Were we facing a "relentless decline in standard of living" during the last couple of recessions as well? Tell me about the freedoms you've lost over the past decade. |

I'm starting think we'd be better off if it did ![]() I kind of would just to see all those dumbass libtards being speechless when the government and economy collapses under "the chosen one" and they realize they can't bank on Uncle Sam to wipe their ass and hold their hand through life... It'll be real funny to see all those gun-grabber libs shitting themselves when no one at Brink's is calling when someone kicks in their front door. On the other hand, this place will get 3rd world real quick and it would suck balls, no extra lives in the real world..... |
