Just reading a news article about the bears they tolerate in Anchorage and the several maulings reported recently, when I saw this at the end of the article: 'Paul Jenkins of Eagle River keeps a shotgun loaded with bird shot within easy reach to prevent a 300-pound black bear that hangs around his house from killing his dog. The bear has never been aggressive to Jenkins, but has bluff-charged some of the neighbors walking their dogs.
"I am not going to let him eat my Schnauzer," he said.' Paul. Dude. Bird shot? You really want to turn that pesky bear into a berserker? |

there is a train of thought that a frontal shot on a bear is difficult and possibly ineffective due to a thick skull. Some load a round of birdshot in the mag last so that when a bear charges them there would be a chance to shoot the bear in the face and hopefully blinding it as it charges then getting a better shot when the bear misses on his charge.
I can kinda see the logic but it isnt something I would do. |

I thought they were cool, course I was convinced they only ate liberal humans

Then they kill the bears for digging in the trash instead of having bear proof trash cans so they'll leave. |
