Whats the General feeling about Thomson center contenders ?   My friend has a Nice contender for sale..  It has a Black powder barrel on it currently  (.50 caliber magnum.) with walnut stock and a TC scope.  Does anyone have any idea how these go for new  ?  He wants to get $400

Can't help you with the current going rate - but I love my T/C Encore. I do the great majority of my hunting in the "shotgun" only zone in Michigan and switched to blackpowder a couple years ago. I have the .50 cal barrel on it and stoke it with 2 (50 gr) Triple 7 pellets and a 250 gr shockwave - thing shoots like a rifle and on a good day will group MOA. I'm totally confident I could kill deer out to 150 yards without any problems. Took a doe with it 2 years ago from about 80 yards and she piled up within 20 yards.

I have the Encore, and LOVE IT!. I have the 50cal MZ barrell, and a 20ga slug on it, and killed lots of deer with it. I wasn't aware that the Contender was available with a 50cal MZ barrell...I thought they just had the 45cal for the Contender, and only offered the 50cal in the Encore, but I might be wrong.

Sorry.. I Meant to say that it was an Encore not the contender..  its a very nice rifle .. doesnt have a mark on it.   It has the 209x50 Magnum barrel on it...  On the website they say you can load it with up to 3 pellets and using certian sabots it should be accurate out to 200 yards...As i said, Im debating if i should buy it or not... He wants 400 for it...and i have no idea how much they go for new.

I absolutley love my encore.  It's my only Fudd gun. I love interchangeable barrels.  a new bbl costs $200-$250. so for $250 you've essentially got a new gun with a trigger your already used to.

I have a 15" .204 pistol barrel which will shoot just under 1" @ 100yrds off a bench.  Nobody believes me when i say i have a sub MOA @100yrds pistol.

.243 pistol barrel which is a friggin flame thrower, but i can't hit the broad side of a barn with it.

a 24" 25/06 rifle which is my deer rifle, which (i'm proud to say) i took 2 deer with 2 shots in 2 minutes from the sitting position @ just over 300 yrds

and a vent rib 12 ga bbl that i shoot trap with about once a month.  i get funny looks and alot of questions, but my avg is about 23.

TC's customer service is awesome.  i popped a screw from my vent rib once, they tapped and replaced it at no charge.  plus i lost a couple screws while changing bbls in the field and they sent me new ones, free of charge.

I'd pay $400 for one in a heartbeat, but I'd recommend getting a pistol receiver if you can.  if you have a pistol receiver you can switch from pistol to rifle.  not so if you have a rifle receiver.

For an Encore, I'd say that's a steal.  Great guns, especially when set up as rifles.  I really don't care for them much as pistols, since the balance is so far forward of the grip.
