I guess it's my turn to ask for help from the resident mechanics.

My 2001 Blazer has a vibration coming from the front drivers side.  It goes away when I turn to the right, it will also go away for the split second the weight is lifted off the front after hitting a rise.  Any ideas on what it could be?

Wheel Bearing?

CV joint?

Your blinker fluid is low.

or you have a bearing going bad or the wheel is out of balance.

2wd or 4wd?

My first thought is wheel bearing, do you know of anyway I could check to see if that is the source?  I don't think it's a cv joint, it doesn't pop when turning like they sometimes do.

Not a mechanic, but you just pull the hub out to dislodge the bearing, replace and see if the vibrations goes away.....assuming this is a 2wd and not a 4wd.

Of course it's 4wd.
  Does this complicate things much?

Go buy a Chilton Manual, there should be step by step instructions on how to check and repack/replace the bearings.

Assuming you are mechanically inclined.

Yup...sounds like a wheel bearing.

sealed bearing...

Jack up that wheel off the ground. Spin it and listen closely. Hear grinding? Grip it at 12 and 6 oclock and shake hard. watch for movement in the ball joints.

Thanks, google just told me the whole hub has to be replaced on a 4wd.

That is at minimum a 6 beer job.

Just did my buddies 2 months ago.  Not a hard job if you are mechanically inclined.  The only special tool needed is a big socket for the wheel nut.  I can't remember what size exactly but it is over 30mm, the book should tell you.

Does it get progressively louder the faster you go? Then it is probably the wheel hub assembly. a common problem on Jimmy/Blazer.

Also possible ball joint since the noise goes away when you turn?

Common 2001 Blazer/GMC problems:

Transmission

air/check valve

Electronic 4wd switch

wheel hubs

ball joints

belt tensioner failure

and the shitty mileage. A 5300 Vortec V8 gets better mileage than this 4.3 V6

What kind of vibration?

5/6/2009 1:05:19 PM EDT

yup, probably a hub & bearing assy.  go for an aftermarket for sure from your local parts store, the OE's hang a bigtime mark up on those things.

Could be a loose nut behind the wheel this was a common problem when I used to run Western Autos.
But it sounds like the bearing.

It goes away when the load is lifted from that side.

It does get louder the faster I go.

my half-assed, "worth what you paid for it"  internet guess is wheel hub assembly then.

If you are a do-it-yourself kinda guy, check and compare prices at rockauto.com on the parts.
A few other common problems I forgot to mention are the ABS module, and the gas gauge flopping all over the place when it gets under a half tank.

Que?   How would this cause a vibration?

My gas gauge doesn't even work.

I guess I should've said common OTHER problems

If your gas gauge doesnt work, you fit right in to the 2001 suck club. Sending unit is in the gas tank. Another six beer job.

Wheel bearing

or

Check your lug nuts.  (Don't ask how I know, long story)

Fixed!!  It was the wheel bearing, which I replaced today along with break pads and rotors on both sides.  It's a pretty good feeling when you can fix your car on your own.

ETA- And I  only had one cussing fit during the repairs.

Perhaps spelling can be your next challenge?
