Diamater of the pin is ~ 1/4"

I'm not exactly sure what that is, but it appears to be some kind of pin.

Now, how in the hell did it get there?

I fired up the earthquake machine to deliver that promised 6.5 to a certain region in Mexico today (you know, to sort of help things along), and got nothing!  Been scratching my head over it all day.   Well, saw your post, went out and opened that inspection cover (the one right over the leads to the seismic induction probes), and no lead bracket pin!  The damn plug was out.

Think you could overnight that little devil to me?  The boss will be pissed if I don't make that quake happen by Thursday.

Thanks!

Actually, it looks like it fell out of an office chair.

Would you like me to overnight it to you?

No seriously, I have no idea how it got there or what it is.

Find out who put it there then use enhanced interrogation to find out what it came from.

It's was an early prototype for the paperclip.  As you can easily surmise, it didn't work and the design had to evolve before it became the famous object that we take for granted in our daily lives.
