If you're a subscriber to the Christian faith (or not), what is your visualization of hell? What does the Bible say?
Is it more like CONSTANT AGONY and pain way past your threshold constantly, for eternity? Or more like life now but way worse. You can gain things but usually only to lose them, getting laid off all the time, cheating spouses, ect. Sort of like a shitty third world country. |
|
Hell was created for the fallen angels, so I don't think you could possibly imagine what it would be like. I'm sure it's worse than your brain can comprehend. The bible says that you will burn for eternity....
http://www.christinyou.net/pages/hell.html All I know is I've accepted Jesus Christ as my personal saviour and try my best to follow His example so I don't go there. - Clint |

I don't believe there is such a thing. The whole "hell " thing was a fairly late addition to the whole Christian belief system. Guess they needed a big stick to keep the believers in line when Jesus didn't come back within a few years as they thought he would. Please clarify what you mean by "late addition." |

Complete and utter aloneness... No one to talk to. No one talking to you. Nothing to look at. Nothing to feel. Absolute nothingness for eternity. That may not sound too bad but strange things start happening with sensory deprivation. In the absence of feeling, hearing, scent... the mind creates such things and they are not pleasant. You will be your own tormentor. At least that's how I picture hell. I am a Christian. My idea comes from the idea that hell is the separation from God. It is the separation of you from everything. You will not be with your friends. There will be no suffering together. No hope. |

What does the Bible say? Smart man - you're asking the right question. Not 'what do you think', but 'what does God's Word say?'. Is it more like CONSTANT AGONY and pain way past your threshold constantly, for eternity?
That pretty well sums it up. Here's a pretty good overview of what Scripture teaches about hell: http://www.carm.org/christianity/christian-doctrine/hell |

Imagine yourself sitting at a giant table that is filled with the most delicious food and beverages ever created. In between you and the food however, is a wall of bars.
In your hand is a very long fork that allows you to reach the food, but since it's so long, you can not feed yourself. That's Hell. Staring at all of that delicious food for the rest of eternity and not being able to taste it. In Heaven it's the same set up. The only difference is that the People feed each other with their forks. |

Jesus told this story and unlike the parables he otherwise related, this was apparently an actual event he was describing.
Luke 16:19-28 There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores and longing to eat what fell from the rich man's table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores. The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham's side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. So he called to him, "Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire." But Abraham replied, "Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony." "And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been fixed, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to here." BTW, a bible teacher told me once not to say I was not a rich man. If you make $15,000 dollars a year or more, you are in the top 1 percent of income for the planet!
No fire for me please!

If you're a subscriber to the Christian faith (or not), what is your visualization of hell? What does the Bible say?
Why would it matter what non-Christians say about the subject? It is a Biblical Christian doctrine. The Bible is clear. It is a place of separation from God, loneliness, and fire and thirst. People that say such silly things like, "Me and all my buddies will be there and have a big party", do not know what they are talking about. I thank Jesus that I will never see it in person, because of what He did for me. |

you mean to tell me el diablo wouldn't want to poke a pitchfork in your butt and tease you a little? This is a common misconception. The Devil will indeed be in Hell, but he will be an "inmate", not a ruler. Satan does not live in or rule Hell. It was prepared by God for Satan and his followers. They will not enjoy it. |

A simple search using Google will give you many examples. Just Google "Hell" and the first answer will give you plenty of information. Just as one example, Islam is very close - "In the Qur'an, the holy book of Islam, there are literal descriptions of the condemned in a fiery Hell, as contrasted to the garden-like Paradise (jannah) enjoyed by righteous believers." There was a time when I immersed myself in the readings of many of the world's religions and one thing I was struck by was how so many core values were held by them. |

| Only heaven exists. Hell is a state of being in purgatory, purging you the things of your past life that you still hold on to. Facing your fears. There is no 'everlasting' hell. The everlasting hell is more of a state of assimilation with the whole. Reabsorbtion of your individual consciousness with the consciousness of god. |
