I live in SC.

I have lived in SC for the last 20 years.

I have eaten boiled peanuts.

I will eat boiled peanuts.

All that aside:

Boiled Peanuts = FAIL

I grew up eating boiled peanuts in Alabama.  Still order them off the net from time to time.

It looks as though the southerners are the only fans.  Very regional food!  They are effing addictive too!

[#10]
Never so much as seen someone eat one. That being said, i'd be willing to try.

What the hell is a "boiled peanut" and why are they so popular?

4/11/2009 8:08:46 PM EDT

they're green (raw) peanuts boiled in brine for several hours then cooled. A lot of folks soak them in fresh water overnight first. Other folks add spices (cajun seasoning or hot sauce) to the  brine.

And no, you don't eat the shells.

I love them.

But being from the north I have to order them online.

I love them... If they are boiled correctly... They must have the correct amount of salt, and they can't be over boiled... But better over boiled than under boiled. I also like to dabble with different peppers thrown into the mix for flavor. It's an art, that i haven't mastered yet. If you are ever in Columbia SC, stop by Crombers and grab a pound. And no, i don't work for them.

i love boiled pnuts. i wrote a letter to peanut patch, and told a sad tale of woe, about how i could not get them in iraq... they sent me 2 cases... YUMMY..... all a boiled pnut is, is a regular green pnut, boiled in salt water... they are  best when hot. my ex wife and wife were like WTF??, when i first introduced them to the nuts, after a sampling, they kept coming back for more.  your going to love my nuts !!!

I grew up in north florida and boiled peanuts were like a staple for us.  Love em!!  Haven't had them in years though.  I guess instead of ordering more grits, I should be ordering some boiled goobers.

Hell yeah!  Good ol' Florida boiled peanuts done up Cajun style.

Damn it... now I want to hit the road-side stands and order some.

We have a saying down here that goes "like feeding a pet monkey peanuts and watching him sh*t".
I have the feeling boiled peanuts would just get the job done quicker, I'm partial to roasted peanuts myself.

Never tried them

They sound disgusting

I would try them though

I like them pretty well.  Oddly enough, I'm very allergic to peanuts, but I can eat boiled peanuts without any trouble.

I'd never heard of them until we went on a family vacation to South Carolina. A state trooper at a gas station there told us we should try them. Something about being the official something or other of the state. We tried them. I only ate one.

No thanks.

good stuff, those....

[#36]
I love boiled peanuts. I love them so much that, even though I can't get them here, I tried making my own (with green/raw/unroasted/whatever peanuts). That didn't turn out so well. Yeah, I used way too much salt.

Every time we head down south, we pick up some at the Georgia gas stations, which are about the only place I've ever seen them.

When I drive down to Florida to dive I always get some boiled Peanuts to take back to Illinois.   My wife got me started on them, she said they were popular in Puerto Rico when she was a kid.

ok this is one thing I have tried and don't like.  For years traveling through the south I have seen them at various stops and one day I told the wife I have got to try some, they are everywhere and they must be great.  maybe I got a bad batch but they were tasteless mush. I could not believe people would eat that crap.
