Critics of the high priests of hatred known as Metallica often claim their load and reload albumns were shit incarnate, as they fail to stand up to expectations of speed play and screeching juvenile hatred. Prince Charming, a song off of their reload albumn, is quintessential mature hatred refined, more cold, more logical, and yet still as metal as that dildo your wife puts in your ass everynight after lecturing you about spending too much on pmags due to obamamania.

Listen, and kneel ye heathens, only the righteous among you will appreciate this, if ye dont, ye know then you are a worthless piece of meat, or at least only worth what use one may have for meat.

Behold, and submit heretics:

I love those albums, and consider it very impressive that they were able to create great diverse music...  "Mama said"  to "creeping death" to "low mans lyric"... I loved it, always will.

people are sad, ADD generation syndrome I guess, if it doesn't bitch slap them in the first 30 seconds they wont bother with the rest....and the way metallica shifted to composition after the black albumn cutoff mark was songs that didnt hit you until the first 3rd or halfway through, but then, they really hit you....

take bleeding me, slow as shit until the thunder and hatred kicks in "....i'll take the leash, i'm bleeding me, can't stop to save my soul....I'll take the leash thats feeding me" with a vocal style that evokes pure pain streaked hatred..."i am the beast that feeds the beast, i am the blood i am released, come make me pure, bleed me a cure..."

Totally a "come here you sawed off over confident unskilled little whelp of a punk and let me shatter your illusions with the assraping of reality as i give you the true measure of your worthlessness with the cock hammer of skull fucking you shit stained ass maggot" of a set of lyrics.

I never got why it was cool to hate hate metallic for "selling out"...i guess me still being in diapers when ride the lightning came out may be part of it.

The first songs I heard by metallica were from black, load, and reload.  These were the songs that got me interested in them and lead me to discover Kill em all, ride, master and Justice.

Sure, I like the older stuff better, but I don't hold any ill will for the newer stuff (which is after all, still decent music compared to allot of other shit played on the radio from that time period.)

I am not a fan of saint anger, but I simply choose not to listen to that album, i don't say "oh my god, I hate metallica and I hope they die" because of it.

That's no contest, I'd rather listen to a recording of fingernails being scratched across a black board than nickelback.

Same goes for most of the "new rock" out there.  I think "The day that never comes" is far better than most of the other new stuff on 100.7mms (rock station out of Cleveland) today despite what critics say.

Gotta say +1 here.  Seems that ever since Hetfield started believing he was a "great" singer I haven't been interested in any of their stuff.  The earlier stuff up to the Black album was a better fit for his singing style, imo.

If I could only have one album the rest of my life, it would be ....and Justice for All.

As if I have not heard justice? I'll not disparage justice or master, but surely you realize the percieved change began with justice, albeit subtley.

And for the record I'm 30, Master was their first that I heard, Kill'em all was over-rated....

Their style has simply evolved and matured, that they are disparaged for such by people who's chief complaint is their stuff isnt fast enuff with screeching says it all.

Heavy is more important than fast.

I submit white zombies la sexorcisto and godsmacks first albumn as evidence of such.

eta

what many of you are calling metal was merely early shock rock and not metal. Its juvenile tantrum-esque. Its "look at me im fast and i screech in my raaaaaaaaggggeeee!!! awww!!!" Its the loudest, and therefore weakest one in the room. I was there for the ride listening to the same shit, i'm glad they grew out of it with me, or rather, me with them.

Heres a test:

would yo call danzig metal?

the misfits?

heavy and dark trumps speed and scream, speed and scream is the emo punk before he crashes into reality and starts cutting himself, heavy and dark follows the delinquent until he starts bombing daycares because he hates children.....now who's metal....

For Whom The Bell Tolls was a metal headbanging anthem song. It was slow, but it was heavy.  To Live is to Die was a song made up from riffs that Cliff Burton wrote. I wouldn't call it an embrassing emo moment at all.

Anthems are irrelevant, as is the "ritual" of headbanging.....the question is which is more apt to subliminally pump you up for mayhem.....and the two you cited most certainly do not qualify!

Admittedly, not so much for To Live is to Die, but it's still a great song. It was more of a tribute for Cliff than anything else.

Look up to me

See right through me
See the one who can't be free
See right through me
Look it's me what no one wants to see

The first 5, (not counting the 5.98EP Garage Days re-revisited as its all cover songs) albums have complex harmony's, cohesion of thought and Meaning.  You can actually comprehend the meaning of the song, cause it actually has one. The black album for all its commercial success was the turning point.  Due to that success, and its associated cameos Hetfield actually thought he could sing, he can scream in key, sometimes.
The band has admitted to throwing the lyrics together, and it shows.  The music is hacked and spliced, they jump from riff to riff with no follow through. it just sounds hacked together.
Bands grow, they expand their sound.  Its expected.  but to go from Metal to a rock/fusion sound and call it metal.  That doesn't work.  the Fans have stated this though Album Sales, Check the RIAA if you want the current #s they will most likely never see the success of the Black album again Load/Reload never even reached the sales of Justice or Puppets, Death magnetic had intense initial sales and have dropped off.  The band has Alienated a large contingent of their dedicated fan base, They aren't buying the albums.  They are going to shows to hear the old stuff, and some are even sitting down during the new songs.

Can't argue here. I think half the people I know that bought the "black" album said it sucked. Obviously fans of the first four albums. The other half were people that liked the new commercial crap being pumped out by radio and mtv.Pretty obvious why succeeding record sales have dropped. IMHO AJA was definatly the best production ever. There's tunes on the newer albums I like but as a whole the first four were just way better.
