| 20+ years in the Marine Corps took a toll on my ankles and knees. Anyone have any recommendations for a good cushioning set of insoles for boots? |
| I use Dr. Scholl's sport gel inserts, about $13 at Target; I have used them for about 2 years, was very skeptical at first, but they made three pairs of shoes that I had given up wearing because they hurt my feet (2 pairs of Johnston & Murphys, 1 pair of really cheap shoes) very comfortable. I now use the insoles in all of my shoes except running shoes. I use them in work boots (Red Wings), hiking boots (Asolos), and duty boots (Blackhawk). If you recognize the names of the shoes I wear them in, you'll know that they are mostly higher-end shoes, so there is no limit to the versatility of the insoles (for me). The cheap pair of shoes I use is a pair of Airwalks (the cheap version of Converse All-Stars - I use them for weightlifting to get a very flat, unarched footbed). Hope the info helps. |

I don't know what kind of shoe you wear normally, ie duty boots etc, but I really like Danner Mountain Light hiking boots. Really comfortable, but expensive, ~$240/pair.
I would also recommend Superfeet Insoles |

I use the Dr. Scholl's gel inserts. They are far from ideal, but they
reduce the main problem I have, which is heel pain from prolonged standing. The first couple of days you have them in it feels like your shoes are too small until they get mashed down a little bit. I'd prefer the ones that are only half an insert by the heel, but they just end up sliding forward and making things even worse. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

I would also recommend Superfeet Insoles If custom orthotics are not a viable alternative, then Superfeet are the next best thing. |

I usually find them locally at REI, when on sale 25% off list, reg list ~$40.

BTW: If anyone is contemplating Superfeet, Superfeet recommends get shoes with removable insoles. I believe this is documented somewhere in Superfeet's FAQ section. |

These are incredibly comfortable and durable. I've left my custom orthotics in the closet and with any luck I'll be wearing them to Afghanistan this year! w00t!!! Oregon Aero Shock-Blockers |
