[ARCHIVED THREAD] - If you only had to pick one? (Page 1 of 2)

| If you had to pick one pistol to go in to combat with what would you pick? The Ammo is by the millions for the caliber you want and the mags cost you $0.01 per mag. So what would you go with and why? |

Ruger P-89 I like my HK USP, HiPower, HS2000, etc, etc. The thing that I like about the P-89 is that it has fired every time I shot it and when out of ammo it makes a great sledge hammer for busting some skull open. You gotta turn the Glocks over for that or use the end of the barrel. The Ruger will bash something in really well. [:D] |

1911 style .45. Probably full size. Just can't beat the idea of that 230 grain slug flying at the enemy. Then for an auto you could have a nice little Thompson sub, and only have to carry one type of ammo. I know I know heavy and not an AR, but I always thought they were cool. My father said he's seen Japanese soldiers cut nearly in two from a dead-on burst from the Tommy. I think a full auto shooting 230 grain slugs would make the enemy duck? |

Quoted: 1911A1 I've fired the Glock 18, good luck to your guys using one in actually hitting anything. You just don't know how to shoot a Glock... Yes there is a difference. Not a flame, simply fact. I will bet you a brand new AR-50 that I can out shoot you with a Glock 36, which is one of the worst over any factory issue 1911 you bring. |

Apparently you don't know what the Hell you are talking about. You've got that right. I fired a Glock 18 in Georgia, and the thing was a total bitch to control. You really need a K-grip on that thing if you're gonna keep the rounds off the ceiling. I guess he doesn't know what a Glock 18 is. |

Derek45, Is METALIFE the silver finish in your Kimber? Where's you get that done and how much was it? I have a Charles Daly Shotgun that I'd like to have refinished in Silver on the lower half of the receiver and I'm not sure who to go to. It's blued right now. I have heard Robar does a nice brushed nickel finish but I have never heard of Metalife. thanks, matt crashburnrepeat Quoted: GLOCK, or this: My customized METALIFE'ed Kimber With Bo-mars Hand checkering, I did myself. Only handgun I own is Glock 30. I bought it for damaging power (.45acp) and its compact size. But I would choose full size 1911 handgun if I'm going into combat. For me, 3 dot sighting system works the best. Its a must have on my combat weapon. As for caliber, I'll stick with .45acp and .40sw. |

I'd take an HK USP Tactical , Hi-Cap mags, Gem Tech silencer(for those "special" moments). The HK Mark 23 is a great .45 too, but too big in my opinion, much too big. .45 is about as proven of a combat round as any, a definate man stopper. HK is about as proven as a company gets, and their USP line with the hostile environment coating, combined with their very inovative reverse rifling makes it the easiest to clean, and has a barrel that will out last any normally rifled barrel. How could a combat pistol get better than that? |
| The Glock 18C that I shot pretty much just pushed strait back into my hand with little muzzle rise. With a little bit of practice I was doing three shot bursts and even on full auto I could keep all the rounds on a silouette and 25yds. Just my experience with em. Nobody says you have to keep it on full auto all the time |

I prefer the M1911/1991 for most purposes, but if there were trouble and I needed fire volume (and fire discipline were not a great problem!) I would seriously consider the G18 or the Beretta M93 - both select-fire. The M93 has the edge in controllability, given the forward grip that will fold down from under the barrel and give you and extra point to hold down - under the muzzle where you would need it. However, the G18 IS controllable, with some practise and some forearm strength. It's not easy, but it can be done. Of course, I'm 6'3"/250#, and used to playing with much larger toys... FFZ |
