What's the average alarm system response time, in addition to police response time?

On a typical "dial-in" system you can figure on 45 sec for the alarm to activate...grab the phone line...then, call the central station monitoring company...

This is then received by a server of sorts which takes approx 10 to 20 seconds to convert the signal into something the alarm dispatcher can handle...

Figure in another minute or so for the dispatcher to pull up the alarm look at the activity and then dispatch the appropriate authorities...

Police and fire response time varies by area...in my neck of the woods figure between 10-15 min for police and a little less time for fire (so long as the alarm in question is within the city limits)...

Hope this helps...

Under 5 minutes here.  I know from screwing up the code.

When my alarm goes off the company calls in about 30 seconds...  No contact than police show up between 5-8 minutes depending on the time of day.  Confirmed by my alarm going off a couple times....

It all depends on the nature of the alarm.  Is it a bank teller who hit her little red button?  In this case, its pretty damn quick.  Time for the signal to get to Dispatch, the call noted to the dispatcher and her to air it.  In this case 20-40 seconds plus drive time of nearest available officer.

Is it a house or business that has a motion dectector that gets set off every other day?  Well, lets just say the response won't be as quick.

There are lots of variables.

Your best bet would be to call your local agency and ask them for the numbers.  Be specific about what type of alarm you are talking about.  Residential, business, bank, Check cashing place.

How many zones were set off.  Was it a single front door motion, or was it front door, office, and 3 other zones?

You planning on robbing a place near me or something?

I work for an alarm company and I would say the average response time for police is 5 to 20 minutes.  Fire and medical is less than 5 easily.  Response time seems to be affected by the area.

The standard for my company is that all alarms get called in less than 20 seconds from it being received.
