Go watch this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E-tnRU0_k8c (sad song). Is it about the narrator's lost love who is now an old woman with a marriage she doesn't value but thinking of him, he hopes? Or, was the narrator her husband, and did he lose her when their children predeceased both them (maybe as soldiers overseas), and she's shut him out of her life in order to pretend she doesn't know what she lost... Something else? There's some great songwriting here. The layers are really quite astounding. The cycling of the seasons as a metaphor for the central relationship or life or whatever. Also good: The lost wedding ring as either the failed marriage or the existing marriage that has lost all love... Thoughts? |
