I have a Bushy carbine that I bought during the ban. It was the "Bushmaster Shorty AK" model. It came with a regular fixed stock, A2 upper, and an AK-style muzzle break. Well, after the ban expired in 'O4, I had a vortex flash-hider and flat-top upper put on it. Now there's an Eotech sitting on top. Well, lately I've ben thinking of getting a screw-on carry-handle for back-up. I know I could go with a flip-up iron sight, but I may want a carry-handle instead.

Question is, I've heard about "F-marked Front Sight Bases" and I don't see an "F" marked on mine. Does it make any difference when ordering my carry-handle? Thanks.

Bushmaster doesn't put f marker front sight bases on their uppers. I have a bushmaster 20" A4 upper, that I use with a carry handle. I zeroed at 50 yards, and I had to crank the front sight post up A LOT (I could have went a couple of more quarter turns, but I was getting close to the "release point") and I added about 7 clicks of elevation (from bottom out) to the rear sight. On the downside, I can't use the caliberated range markings, but for the ranges that I have access too (generally not more than 200) things are easy enough to figure out.... My sights are dead on out to 100. There is an altrernative extra tall front sight post that you can buy from DPMS or Bushmaster that will solve that problem. I don't have that, but it would probably simplify things if I did.

ETA-
F marked FSB is only necessary on flat top uppers.
If you have a true A2 upper (fixed carry handle) you really shouldn't need the F marked FSB or extra tall front sight post.

Probably better off posting this in the tech forums, but...

...assuming you didn't already swap the front site post with the taller one from Bushy, you might want to look into one. Bushmaster doesn't use F makred FSB's hence the taller site post. IMO, you need a BUIS on there with the EOTech. If you insist on having a separate carry handle, any will work. Follow the Maryland Shooter's carry handle setup mod.
