Neither.
It was a Fascist economy with a dictatorial government. In a fascist country, property is nominally owned by individuals and private corporations, however they are centrally commanded and organized by a manager either in or appointed by the national government. eta: I suppose for the sake of argument, you could call it far left. Back in the 20s and 30s, you had people arguing for the same thing in this country. Progressives believed the economy had to be controlled by the best and brightest individuals... chosen by the government, of course. Even Herbert Hoover went along with this crap and was chosen as a great "organizer." The difference between nationalization of industry and detailed central control of industry by a government appointed individual really is not all that great. |

So it seems Socialism and Fascism are similar? Somewhat. If it is a society with many land holders, then the term socialism would be welfare. In a society with few land holders, socialism would be the separation and dividing of all capital (factories, industry) and land. |

Such is the problem when describing political idelogy on a single dimension. In reality, the free will of the people, their essential freedom, must be considered. It becomes a 2-dimensional situation. In either communist or fascist systems, essential freedom of the people is sacraficed for the good of the state. |
| Far, far left equals total government control and tyranny. Far, far right equals very little or no government and anarchy. Hitler's Germany was far left. Many in academia (mainly far leftist/socialists/communists) write how Hitler's Germany was right wing; but the first two names of the Nazi party were (I think) National Socialists....When I think of Hitler's Germany, I think of total government control (there was still the private industry but it was regulated and controlled for the Nazi war machine), confiscation of firearms, suppression and prison for political criticism and opposition, and one-party rule. Hitler played the race card to get others to back his form of nationalism. |

The Democratic People's Republic of North Korea is NOT Democratic, just like NAZI Germany was NOT the National Socialist German Workers Party, the were NOT socialist and Communist fighting them were always quick to point it out.
Far Left or Right, its not just a continuum, its also a circle, go far enough either direction it comes around for both to meet at totalitarianism. You can spend pages discussing theory and how far left/right is this or that, in practice we see far left results in a communist/socialist dictatorial state and far right results in a fascist dictatorial state, life is pretty much the same under either. Yes, I know, someone is going to point out, in "Theory" North Korea is Democratic, in practice they are NOT, sorta demonstrates the problem with communism, the practice is so opposite the theory. |
