I was wondering around Giant Eagle earlier and they had a little display of Passover beverages. I always wanted to try the Coke with sugar instead of HFCS so I picked up a couple 2-liters. Why don't they sell this all year long? It's so much better than "regular" Coke I don't know if I'll be able to go back to that crap |

| Most people cannot tell the taste difference between HFCS and sugar and HFCS is very cheap, hence most soft drinks use HFCS when avaialable. A lttle secret of coke: the formula is not changed from country to country other than one ingredient/aspect, Coke's sweetness and the sweetener (HFCS or sugar). It happens to be than in most latin american countries (as in Mexico) coke is made to taste sweeter. |

Rumor has it that Pepsi is making some Kosher this year too. I stock up too. HFCS is just way too cheaper here. Funny thing is that in Mexico it's the other way around. The only reason it is so cheap is because of a gov'ment imposed tariff on sugar. If the corn farmers are doing so poorly why then do we pay them not to grow at maximum capacity?

MExico, unlike the US, can buy sugar on the world market at those market prices. The sugar growers of America have bribed Congress to restrict importation of foreign sugar, making sugar in America much more expensive.
In America, first you get the sugar, then you get the power, then you get the women. |

It's called "natural Pepsi",and it isn't for Passover..made with real sugar and natural ingredients in select test markets..my Mom in CA told me this last night. So hopefully everyone will start buying it up and they will market it nationally. I have 10 2 liter bottles of Jew Coke, great stuff |

If Pepsi only used sugar it might be OK. |

It's not any sweeter to me but it tastes much more "crisp" and doesn't leave that aftertaste.
I buy 3 single serve glass bottles every grocery trip and me, my husband and our oldest daughter each have one as a treat. I don't buy soft drinks other than that and a bottle of natural root beer sometimes. My weakness is actually the Icee. I can't see a machine somewhere without having to stop and get one. |

Because people drink more of the HFCS That doesn't make sense. Why would you drink more of the one that doesn't taste as good? It's the same reason that Jeep doesn't make an SRT-8 Commander. Because beancounters run corporations, not people that know what's good, for fuck's sake. |

Because people drink more of the HFCS...and because it is way cheaper. I've never had the US sugared version, but I have had the Mexican version. Good stuff, if not a little too sweet. It's not "way" cheaper, the savings at coke are something like 1/2 cent per 12 onces. Yes, to the coke corp that add's up to a lot of money, but as a consumer would you even notice? |

You know why people drink more HFCS coke than sugared? Try this experiment... Drink the HFCS coke one day and see how many you can finish. Then the next day, drink the sugared one. I will bet you that you cant drink as much of the sugared as you can the HFCS. Your body doesnt recognize the HFCS as it does sugar. Like my buddy just said, I bet the diabetes rate would go down. |

Red caps on regular coke and yellow on Passover Coke. Correct. A friend that is a Rabbi verified that. I've only been able to find a single bottle of the good stuff so far this year. I had it yesterday. It is very easy to tell the difference between it and the crappy stuff. The fizz is a more tan, it smells different, and it didn't go flat as fast. The taste is definitely better but it isn't that different. However, the aftertaste is much better.z |

It's that you can't have something that ferments or rises, like bread/dough/etc. Since corn can ferment for making alcoholic beverages (and might be fermented for HFCS, I dunno), it's not kosher for Passover. |

Every year I read these threads and go to the store but they never have any. This year I got smart and bought a liter bottle a couple of weeks ago. I did a blind taste test with regular coke and I was able to easily pick out the sugar sweetened coke. The sugar coke was much better tasting and like others have said it didn't have that aftertaste that the HFCS has. I didn't find it tasted any sweeter than the HFSCS coke either. |

Because people drink more of the HFCS Wrong. The HFCS is cheaper for the manufacturer to use. We pay for it just the same in the subsidies provided to the corn industry. ETA: IMO there is very little difference in the taste of 'sugar' or 'HFCS' Coke packaged in plastic bottles. The after-taste is a different story... |
