I've been putting my meager collection of guns together for a few years now which include:
- LMT M4 fully decked out with a Larue rail, Aimpoint, Timney trigger etc. -Larue 18" Stealth complete with LT lower and sopmod stock. -Glock 22 -HK USP 45 -SA Stainless 1911 chambered in .45 I find myself becoming less interested in guns ever since the election due to the market being so miserably desolate. Every where you look parts and accesories are sold out, along with magazines and ammo. The equipment exchange is an option if you need something badly but other than that be prepared to jump on a backorder list. I'm also getting completely sick of paying 350 to 400 bucks for a thousand rounds of decent blasting ammo and thats if your lucky enough to find it anywhere in stock. While I would never sell any of my guns, I am definitley not making range trips like I have been and they are seeing much less use than this time last year. Just had to vent thanks.

My model 60 .22 has been getting a workout as all I buy anymore is .22 bricks from Wal Mart. Wife and I can go shooting a brick on a weekend for a total cost of 13 bucks. I find myself savoring shots more when I do use center fire rounds. I take longer to shoot, focus on technique, and use bolt guns and revolvers more than my semi-auto stuff. Check into getting a .22 or two, or maybe a conversion kit if you don't already have one. It'll get you the range time and is still a lot of fun. You can get a Marli model 60 every day of the week for 135 bucks. Saw a nice one on the EE for 110 shipped. |
| When I first bought the glock, which was my first gun, .40 ammo was 17 dollars per hundred for WWB. Now the same ammo is 30 bucks per hundred. Jesus its only been 3 years. I've toyed with the idea of trading it in for a Glock 17 or 34 or at least getting a conversion barrel. |

Before the election, when Bush was in office and the Republican controlled the congress, I completely lost interest in guns (discovering Lindy Hop was also a big factor). When I saw that Obama had a very good chance of rolling over the lethargic McCain's campaign, my interest in guns started to come back and ever since the election, it's been stronger than ever. Now I go to the range to practice as much if not more than going dancing and I've been spending EVERY single penny that I don't need to buy guns, ammos and accessories. I don't even bother to save anymore. PS - well, OK, I lied a little bit. After the AWB sunset, I bought myself an AR15 A-2 Government Carbine to celebrate, but then I said to myself, "This will be the last gun I'll buy". It all changed during the last months of the presidential campaign. I still have one more rifle to go - I want a flat top M-4 and I'll top it off with a Leupold Tactical 1.5 X 4.5 scope, a Micro AIMPOINT, a BUIS and a Surefire flashlight. It's going to take me a few months to save up for all that, but I will get them. |

Personally I lost interest once I had a decent collection stayed with mainstream popular calibers...
AR15/M16 shoots 223 cheaper and great inside 300 yards weapon. Benelli popular 12ga shoots turkey, dove, quail and pheasant for me. A .45 for CCW - prefer my XD45 to my sig p220. Going to sell P220... A .270 rifle (700bdl) for deer other game at distance... I debated 300 winmag or 270 win found 270 ammo a little cheaper. Basically I'm done and selling off many guns I have at this point. Two sig p220's, one sig p226, one sig 556, one old browning 12ga and I will keep 5 guns. don't drop out of the game. there's always options.
I find old junker .22's and refinish them to add to my collection and use for trading to the local gun shop for stuff i need. He's always happy to get nice looking old .22's on his rack. with ammo prices going crazy,i got re-interested in shooting .22 LR. i have several old Remington 510's and 550's and a Rem. 34 that I bought cheap because the wood and metal on 'em has seen better days. i have a lot of fun bringing these old rifles back from the dead, and it doesn't cost much to do, and i get to spend some great time with my daughter before she's totally grown up and gone. Since we can't go shoot much, me and my daughter started sanding stocks and as soon as those are done, we'll start on the metal and Oxpho-blue that at home. One of the 510's will be getting a new Rem. 513T(heavy target) barrel and stock and will be used as a ".22 trainer", it's already drilled and tapped w/weaver bases so i can slap on a cheap mil-dot scope i picked up in the Bargain Cave at Cabela's a couple years ago. if you get bored with your normal blasting with a .22, google mini-sniping. it's lots of fun. shooting little green army men and other tiny targets at 100 yds and beyond is a blast. Some peole use shorter ranges and use air rifles. Peter Hathaway-Capstick wrote an article on this years ago. tha article is online too. |

You have a very nice personal/home/zombie/shtf/teotwawki collection (or at least a good start).
You know what you need? A revolver, a bolt action, lever action, etc. The is a lot more out there to have fun with then just the "tactical" stuff. I recommend: Marlin lever action in .357/.38 special or .44 mag/special. I still see this ammo on the shelves A nice revolver. If buy the lever action, you are obligated to buy a revolver in the same caliber. Don't ask why, you just are. Yugo Mauser. A blast to shoot. Cheap, accurate, and reasonable price on ammo. Trust me, you won't shoot more then a 100 rds in a session and you will feel like you fired 3k rds out of the AR I didn't see a shotgun in your list. Popin' some clays is always a good time. Modern bolt action with a scope. Time to extend your range. Anything in .22lr. Don't care what, just get something You got the tactical/personal/home/zombie/shtf/teotwawki covered. Now go and look for some fun firearms. Its not all about blasting away. I have found hitting a target 300 yds away with one shot just as satisfying as a mag dump with the AR. And as a bonus, that single round was a lot cheaper. Look around for something non-tactical. Let everyone else pay the premiums on what is cool right now. A lot of the not-as-cool firearms are still very useful and fun. |
| It happens. A few years ago, I took a lull in shooting and got into another hobby: RC flying. Now, things have switched a bit. With the change in the polictical climate, I have been focusing more and more on guns and ammo. For me, both shooting and flying is a hobby, so they come and go. Right now though, shooting may have more of a effect on my well being these days. |

Kinda where I am at nowadays.........I have at least 1K of rifle ammo for each of my rifles, 300-500 for my handguns, and just buying a little here and there..........debating about getting a .38 snubbie or a .22 pistol, but most of my shooting is .22 at the moment

Are you fucking kidding me?
What so you are like a fair weather gun owner? Because your team isn't winning you are depressed and moving on to a new hobby?
Well, let me know when you decide to join the sheep and sell all your gear because your new hobby requires you to spend more time and money on it. And there are more parts availible... If anything you need to wake your ass up and see that this isn't a hobby. Shit is getting short because people feel that their rights are in danger and you are seeing what it going to immediately start happening when it gets worse. You need to start rounding out your gear if you can't buy shit for your guns, storage containers, reloading supplies, brass, lead. Survival gear. Maybe working on your SHTF rig, putting together a bugout bag. Learning some new shit and seeing that everything that is happening and following the trends is pointing to a huge, I mean massive decline in availble supplies if and when things get worse. You know what all these guns sales and shortages point to? Millions of new gun owners that are not only stretching the gun supply, parts magazines, and ammunition. They are going to stress all the other gear that come with it. The industry hasn't caught up yet. And if things get worse. You are going to have millions of gun owners that haven't bought enough ammo, mags or the flashlight mount they wanted when things when south. If anything you need to get more into guns and start on your core gear, what you need to get by now, what you need in parts and what you are going to need for the long haul. Start with replacement parts, reloading supplies, and just basic stuff on top of the guns you already have. Think "Long Term Logistics" This shit doesn't go bad, and you will need it in the future. Look into an armorer's kit, field fix-it kits. If you can't see this now.... Well maybe this isn't for you and being one of the sheep is. |

I'll just wait till this storm blows over thanks. Sorry I moved out of my parents house years ago, and joined the military. I don't wear a tin foil hat, I wear a Gentex flight helmet and I fly on HH-60G CSAR helicopters. I am also a weapons custodian for our Squadron, and from what I am picking up from the Weapons and Ammo guys, that I work with is that not only American consummers buying up stuff, so is Uncle Sugar. Winchester is producing 1mil. rounds of 9mm a day and the DoD is the purchaser. We are also buying up all Lake Cities Ammo as well. That and our weapons vault here on base got a huge number of new MK19 Grenade Launchers and M2 .50 cal's that are all going into to cold storage... Not replacing line units. And as the ammo purchaser I am getting an idea of what is flowing in and out of our base. Besides the 100 plus EOtechs, we just bought, 100 new PEQ-2's and 25 M203's we just bought, that we aren't even qualified on. And these are just for the flyers, the PJ's next door to use have been stocking up to and I don't even now what they have been buying up. Like I said you need to start seeing the trends. Most of the supplers on the board here don't produce items in the millions and right now that's what the market is experiencing purchases in the millions. It's going to take years for this storm to "blow over" because there are millions of new gun owners out there, for a market that usually produces things in the thousands. As I have said the guys on this board are not the only ones stocking up the DoD is buying up huge amount of gear and equipment. Not only to replace what has been lost, but with the foresight to see that Obama is going to start cutting our budget. We are stockpilling for when he trys to gut-us-out like Clinton did. The same trends that you saw when Clinton was in Office is what we are having now, but both the DoD and Civilians are preempting the cuts and legislation. If the Legislation comes down, you aren't going to get the chance to play catch up. |

You own three different handguns with completely different controls.
Settle on one platform, preferably one that is easily converted to .22 LR for cheap practice. Sell the HK and keep either the Glock or 1911. With the money from the two sold handguns buy a .22 LR conversion for the Glock or 1911 and a .22 LR AR upper. |

Get a dedicated .22LR upper from CMMG or Spikes. Buy a dozen or more BDM mags from our friends at 44Mag.Com. Buy as many Federal bulk packs and CCI as you can get your hands on. Defensive/offensive shooting is a perishable skill. I am going to give it a whirl and buy a Glock .22 conversion kit. The one bad thing I hear about .22 pistol conversion kits is their unreliability with anything other than mini-mags or another "premium" ammo. Would be nice to find a conversion kit that feeds Fed Bulk pack as I have about a 10 year supply of that. |

I stopped buying guns and accessories a while ago and rarely shoot on my own time anymore. I have a decent sized ammo stash that I don't feel like replacing at these ridiculous prices. The firearms that I do have and enjoy to shoot are also used for work, so I get to shoot them when I want to on someone elses dime.
My HD Night Train has replaced firearms as my "hobby". The wife and I can have fun all day for $10 in gas and the price of lunch, it's great. Two magazines through an AR costs more than that. |
|
I sold a gun to a buddy and funded my new shooting hobby: Olympic style recurve archery. It's fun and once you buy all the stuff (which can set you back a grand easily), you just shoot it. I went shooting today. First time at 50 meters... man, did I suck! Need some heavier limbs if I'm going to make it out to 90m this summer!

Yeah, I've noticed that I have had very little interest in guns as of late. I've migrated all my money to tactical mall-ninja gear, photography, building my awesome video camera, car parts, and random other stuff. Though last week, I felt compelled to pick up a new bolt gun, so I did. But that was the first gun I've bought this year.

I started really using my marlin60 a lot recently. It was my grandfathers and that thing is a blast to shoot. My dad also bought my boys a bolt action Mossberg .22lr as well. Ammo is cheap.
I like setting up Clays on the 100yrd range and plinking them with the 22. I have a red dot on the Marlin and plan on a scope for the mossy bolt action. Beyond that, I run the Monarch or Wolf Mil Classic .223 for plinking and the Monarch 7.62 for plinking as well. AIM still has decent prices, but I did pick up the bulk of my .223 from them last year. |
