My friend and I got out for some well deserved trigger time today. I wanted to sight in my back up sights on my RRA entry tactical and he wanted to sight in the scope on his Blackthorne carbine.

We often like to shooting reactive targets because they are just plain fun. Pop cans full of water, gallon jugs, green army guys, shot gun shells, fruit, or anything else that will pop good when you shoot it. I don't know anyone who doesn't like that kind of stuff!

He pulls out a 3.1oz CO2 cylinder and sticks in standing straight up in a mud puddle about 40 yds. from our shooting line. The threaded end was buried in the mud so it stood up very nicely.

We got set up to shoot at it. We are standing side by side with about 10 yds. between us holding off hand. At the count of three, we both shoot at the same time and continue until someone hits it. He got his shot off quicker, but I actually hit it dead center with my first shot. Not a bad shot considering how dark it was in the puddle.

I am pretty proud of this shot!

Another angle to see how centered it was. The exit hole.

This is where things go a little wrong! Notice the angle that my bullet took through the cylinder? My buddies shot had hit the water and the hydraulic pressure had tipped the little sucker toward us a little!

When the bullet passed through, the pressure increased enough to pop the thin cap that is pierced by the paint ball gun adapter. Notice the left end after the threads.

When the cap popped, combined with the big exit hole allowing gas to escape, that little sucker turned into a rocket and fired way up in the air to almost tree top height, and came right toward us! It landed 10 yds. to our left, but it was way up there and for a few seconds I was scrambling to avoid getting hit! My friend totally lost it so I yelled at him to run but he didn't even bother. Thank God the wind was blowing to push it away a little.

That sucker must weigh close to 1lb! It was funny as hell! Never been attacked by something I shot before.

The bullet was Privi Partisan 55 grn. at 40 yds.

You're good to go if you're ever attacked by a CO2 canister.

You should have let said "friend " get hit.  That would have tought him to pay attention.

I can't blame him. It rocketed out of the field of view in his scope in an instant. He probably didn't even see it leave as it was surrounded in a cloud of escaping CO2 gas.

I had been thinking about doing the propane tank thing, but now I am thinking about putting it a hell of a lot further away! Hate to get attacked by something bigger.

You need to go talk to a couple of fellas by the name of Prosser and Kurilla and see how that idea went.

And they're both bona fide badasses.

That's the kind of shot you make, and then switch to shooting something some other way, because if you had to do it again it ain't gonna happen.

I am not familiar with those names. Would you care to enlighten me?

I probably wont go so far as to shoot a 20lb. tank because they are just too expensive and I store them for emergencies anyway.

I can't believe no one else gets attacked by things they shoot!

Uh, well. Other than the guys in the military. It ain't funny when it happens to them.

No. I don't think that counts. I guess the video of that guy who almost got killed blowing up a car with tannerite would be in the same league.

Google is your friend.

Although, IIRC, neither one of them shot the tank, Michael Yon did.

And, it worked out for them, pretty damn well.
