Zimbra is liberally sprinkled with bleeding warts and puss oozing festering sores. And we are going
to use it. Why? Because it isn't Microsoft Exchange. Because it isn't Lotus Notes. Because I won't be sitting up at night babysitting an eseutil defrag. Because there really isn't a viable alternative for self hosted group meeting scheduling. It is quite tragic, because the Zimbra developers are *so* close to really poking Microsoft in the eye with a sharp stick. Instead, they are dumping out a product with a multitude of bugs and that has a user interface that looks like someone took a handful of web controls and slung them against one of those sticky insect traps. How can you screw up something as simple as rendering internal CSS from the head section? Inline CSS renders fine. Wonderful. Get ready for some really bloated emails. Outlook does it right. Yahoo mail does it right. Thunderbird does it right. Maybe the devs should spend more time working on the rendering and less on "zimlets". However, people will flock to it. People will praise it and pass out the kool-aide in little paper cups. Snake oil folks will start putting "Zimbra Enterprise Architect" on their resumes. After a period of time, people will come to the realization that they traded one steaming pile of crap for another. Oh, the new pile smells different - but it will still give you the dry heaves if you take a deep breath near it. I have never drank alcohol, but times like this make me think about starting. |
