A buddy of mine just called and said he just left the gun shop and was given a delay for 3 days. This guy always buys guns from this store in fact just bought one this past Friday with no problems but today he's been delayed. Any reasonable explanation?

I've been almost delayed twice now.  They say there was no response in the allotted time and so I'm delayed.  But then before they get off the phone it comes back and says go.  Maybe it was something like this, the system might have been busy and didn't respond fast enough.

I can only buy one handgun per month and I've got a 10-day waiting period for every purchase.  So, you know, the grass is still looking pretty green to me right now.

it won't take 3 days. He's probably already been approved. Gun store owner is a lazy fuck!

MD is 7 days.  According to the wording of the law, MD only has 7 days to DENY an application.  If MSP doesn't come back with "Not Disapproved" (because, you know the state doesn't approve of .civ's owning guns) on the 8th day the dealer can technically release the gun.  However, most dealers here in MD are scared shitless of the MSP, and follow whatever bullshit they are told to do for fear of losing their license.

ETA you can get a collector's license to get rid of the 30 day cooldown period (not it makes up for the assfucking that is MD gun law ).

I can buy as many handguns as I can afford if I feel like it, and can be out of the local gun shop with a new pistola in five minutes with no NICs check from any gun shop with my CHL.

I do love Texas.

It could be a million things. It makes no sense sometimes

I had a guy who just turned 21 wanted to buy his first handgun. Got delayed which was no big deal he had said it happened a while back. Came back in a little later and decided to buy a shotgun so I called him in again and he got approved(still delayed from the handgun purchase) I asked to speak to the supervisor and tried to ask why he could get the shotgun but not the handgun and the supervisor was dumbfounded. It wasnt his fault and he seemed frustrated because it made no sense at all

I have been delayed like 95% of the times I have bought. Go figure.

I think maybe the state check is what delays me here in Va.

Well, if it keeps a criminal from buying a gun, then it's worth the minor inconvenience.

I've been delayed a couple times.  Other times walked right out with gun in hand.  Small price to pay to keep guns out of the wrong hands. IMO

You should move.

I've never been delayed (I'm the only person in the world with my name, so there's no one to mix it up with).

Buying a gun here, any gun, takes 5-10 minutes from when you walk into the gun store, to walking out with your new purchase, depending on how busy it is.

Most delays only take an hour or so. If he would bother to stay on top of it, he would have his gun the same day.
In 3 days if the store owner doesn't recieve a response, it's like getting a green light. The store owner said come back in 3 days knowing he will be fine.

He's probably already been given a green light.

I stand by my original accusation that the store owner is a lazy fuck!

I have never been delayed on a gun purchase, the check just takes a minute or so, and I'm good.

My pal, however has been delayed several times! I asked my favorite gun dealer about it, and he said it could be several things. Such as a felon with a similiar name, an old criminal record whether it's a felony or not, just about anything that red flags his particular name.
