Anyone have experience with DNA paternity testing? A good friend of mine has located her biological father and would like to get a test done to make sure. I've found several services online where you send in swabs and they call you with results. Has anyone used these or know someone who has?

I've looked into this:DNA TEST LINK

It seems like it would be kind of cool to see where your ancestors are from on top of the paternity issue.

I have a college friend that works at Sorenson genomics here in UT.

It's pretty straight forward.  You can buy the test kit, do a buccal swab, then send in the swab and wait for results.

IIRC Sorenson looks at variable long tandem repeats (VLTRs) to do their paternity testing.

So how is she going to get him to "donate" DNA?

Sounds as if she THINKS she has located her bio SPERM DONOR, not found her DAD.

I ahve heard this one is pretty straight forward, but results wont stand in court (unless that has recently changed) as its a home based kit. But will give you the usual % like an in house one..

Probably by cheek swab.

She was lied to her entire life about the ID of her father by her psychotic mother. He is very excited that she found him as he never knew he had a daughter and is more than willing to participate. In fact, he told her that when they met that "he just knew that she was his daughter." They are taking the test to put their family's minds at ease.

She going to ask him? What if he say to piss off? Does she have any contact with the guy? What is his and her age?

Does she have ANY relationship with him?

I'll be honest, if some stranger came up to me and asked for a cheek swab to see if I was "Daddy", I'd tell the person to take a long walk off a short pier in no uncertain terms.

You posted as I was typing, gotcha on the consentual DNA "donation".
