I have several cases of hot dogs (maybe 60 total dogs) that have their listed "expiration date" as sometime in November. I just had a couple last night and they smelled and tasted normal. It has been nearly four months since they technically expired. Do they EVER go bad? Also, am I going to die because I ate some of them last night? MAX |

Bad meat is generally pretty obvious. If it doesn't smell, look, or taste bad, then it's probably not bad enough to kill you. Really though, processed meat that has been kept in it's original sealed packaging at a temp below 40F will keep for quite a while past the "expiration" date. |

MAX You should think of new and creative games to play with the neighborhood dogs utilizing said hot dogs. I buy two packs of cheap hot dogs for this very reason. I don't drink or smoke, this is much more fun. |
My sister included a pack of hotdogs in with the Christmas cookies last December. Due to the snow, they'd been sitting in the post office for a month before I was able to pick them up.
The vacuum seal held, they weren't swelling or discolored, and they smelled fine when I opened them. I've since eaten all of them with no ill effects whatsoever. There's a lot to be said for modern preservatives. |
