I'm looking to buy or build if I have to a target stand to hold a single clay pigeon for shooting at. It would need to hold the clay pigeon vertically. Anyone know if they make something like this or anyone have any ideas or plans on how to build one?

well...maybe we need more specific details, like what distance you plan to use it at, and what do you plan to shoot it with?  Seems like you'd be changing out the clay pretty often unless you have poor eyesight or shaky hands, or some other condition that lowers your accuracy.  I mean, you COULD do it with duct tape and a stick.  if you wanted several targets, get 2 - 2 x 4's or lengths of PVC tubing, sink 'em into the ground, run a line between the posts and hand several clays at different heights off the line.

there are a million + ways to make a great target, cheaply, portably, easy to reload, etc. etc. etc....just have to know what your setup is.

I have seen (don't recall where, but within the last 3 months) a simple wire that holds a clay and sticks into the ground - like a coat hanger with a clay holder on top, so the flat top ofhte clay is toward the shooter - this would be cheap, portable, simple...

It will be for shooting at closer distances so changing them out frequently isn't a problem at all. I basically just need/want something to stick on top of a piece of rebar that is in the ground to hold it in place.

how about a hand held clay target thrower, duct taped to your rebar?

Dremel a hole and stick it on a straightened coat hanger in the ground?

If the rebar is vertical you should be able to bend a coat hanger to work, I've done it before with wood stands.

1  get a board
2  put 2 dry wall screws abot 4 inches apart.
3  put a rubberband between them- it needs to be kinda tight
4 put the clay behind the rubber band.
it should hold it pretty well, also if you want to hold more clays just get a bigger board and repeat.

this works like a charm.
1. get some kitchen twine.
2. hot glue the string to the clay pidgeon.
3. staple or tie it to back stop.
4. blast away.
5. recycle the string.
6. repeat steps 1,2,3,4

enjoy!

We use metal coat hanger for the shooting portion of our hunter safety classes. Just bend them to hold the pigeon. We have a tub full, each kid gets to shoot three times at the pigeons.

Here's a simple and cheap target stand.
