I hope this never happens to anyone .

but what if the economy keeps getting worse and many more folks lose their jobs .How long will you keep your weapons will you sell them to feed the family ?

I know it is a terrible scenario but I have been thinking about it a lot lately .

How long will you keep your weapons ?where do they fall in your priority chart?

I would use them to get/take food before I sold them.

I'm really not completely opposed to selling them.  They're actually an impediment to some travel and travel might become an attractive option.

Forever.  Many of my firearms I inherited from my father, I will never sell them.

I will not sell. I will use them to go out the back door and shoot me a deer or elk...

Nice. It's always good to have the aspiring looters out themselves early in the game.

That said, I won't have to sell my tools because I've been putting back enough food, comms, water purification, medical supplies, ammo and training to see me and mine through rough times.

It's not too late to cushion the blow, if you can do without the plasma TV...

there's a difference between thinning the collection to generate cash, and selling them all.  Nothing wrong with selling all but one or two if you're that hard up.  Having 20 rifles in 15 different calibers, each with their own mags is not necessary for self defense.  Select one rifle per able bodied family member, preferably the same caliber/mag, and sell the rest, as they are nothing but toys/hobby guns.

To paraphrase Fat Freddy" of the "Freak Bothers"...."Guns will get you through times with no money better than money will get you through times with no guns"....yeah, Freddy used "Dope" in HIS quote but, it's all the same!

This right here.

The only ones I'd consider parting with would only net a hundred or two each.  Not worth it in the long haul.
Especially with the endless gun ban agenda.

All I need is 2 9mm handguns, 2 AR/AKs, and an 870.  If I had to sell the rest to provide food and shelter, I would.  I've got other stuff I could sell long before it came to that though.

Selling all my guns isn't going to get us that much farther down the road.  I probably have less than $4000 worth of firearms when NEW...I cannot imagine taking half that (which is about what some schmuck would offer me).  They are worth much more to me than the cash value...otherwise, I wouldn't have bought them in the first place.

I've been through this crap before, I have been laid off, I have lost 2 homes, cars, 401K's, pensions. I have 2 categories for things I need to survive, Tools and guns, tools to earn a living and guns to provide food or self defense. I also have wife and kids. Keep the faith and realize that if you sell your gun you get "x" amount of money that will soon be gone anyway. After losing my last home and job almost 5 years ago, I started my own business and stopped relying on others for my well being. good luck

I could sell quite a few guns and still be able to arm my household so it is no big deal to sell them, especially those not likely to be banned.  I would never sell my last 4 or 5.
3/3/2009 7:39:48 PM EDT
[#48]
There was a time when I was hard up for money, and I sold most of my guns.  I kept a 1911, a .38 snub, a .22 pistol (Star Model F), and a .308 bolt gun.  When times got better, I built up the "arsenal" again.  So, yes, if I needed to raise money, I could sell guns.  I would not feel uncomfortable if "all" I had to fight with was a .308 bolt gun and a .45 autopistol.

I won't sell mine.  I might need them!
