My troop was speaking to the First Sergeant earlier today over the phone about getting his shotgun imported back from Misawa AB, Japan, where it resides in the armory, back to the States. His PCS was a huge cluster fuck, and the armory screwed up paperwork before he left so he's having to jump through hoops.
Anways, during the conversation, the First Sergeant told my troop that a gun shop/indoor range across the highway from post is charging TWO HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS for a damn FFL transfer. Seriously, wtf. (also, their glocks are ~$600 since even before the panic buying, and everything else is similarly ridiculous) |

Quoted: Find another shop. No kidding. I would think soldiers would have the cheapest transfer ffl around all scoped out. Anyway you can get a list through Gunsamerica. It takes some sorting because they never removed people who stop doing it, but it just takes some time to find someone reasonable. |

Ohh, I just remembered my First Sergeant is a shooter also, and was more warning my troop.
One time I was in the orderly room, and the topic of ammo prices was brought up with another SSgt I talk guns with. The First Sergeant came through the hallway and said, "It's all the fucking Chinese's fault for buying up all the raw materials." I about busted a gut laughing. |

I have shot there a few times years ago, and one of my co-workers who recently
started shooting has been going there. I'm sure they aren't doing many transfers if any at that price. Sounds like a deterrent practice to me. ETA: Another one of my co-workers lives on post there. |

you can ship a gun to yourself, IIRC. Just take the barrel off, label it as machine parts. He's here in MD, shotgun is in Japan. Armory won't touch it aside from putting it in a box, and the most painless way to get it here is going to be through a good local shop that only charges 30 for a transfer. |

The only purchases I've made since I moved here weren't possible at On Target since they don't carry stripped lowers and they don't participate in the LE/.mil Glock discount program (only 1 dealer in MD does). |
