The wife and baby are away visiting family so Im doin the bachelor thing right now......needed something easy and filling.

About the only thing ever to come out of France thats worth a damn......French Onion Soup.

Of course I had to Americanize it a tad.

I add bacon. I cant think of anything more American than bacon.

The ingredients.

The preparation.

I added not just onions but garlic, shallots, about three tbsps of rendered bacon grease and the chopped up slices of bacon.

The finished product. I used Swiss and Fontina cheese to top it off.

BTW, if you are a red wine fan, the Casa de Concha is a Chilean red....similar to a Shiraz. Outstanding for the money. At $19.00 its every bit as good as any $40.00 bottle of French wine Ive have.

I gotta tell you, outa all my Ar's....it is hands down the funnest to shoot and the first I would grab for work within 100 yards. It is an absolute wrecking machine.

That's alotta' work for a bowl of soup.

But it looks damn good and you got all of the essentials on board so i am going with a solid 9.5 for a score.

I deducted .5 for counter top envy

I think I am the last American w/o granite counter tops
