Anyone ever use Rosette Stone? Are they legit or just overhyped? I'm thinking of picking up a set to try and keep my language proficiencies up.  I was doing pretty good with Mandarin Chinese in college, but I don't want to lose it due to lack of use, it may be a dealbreaker in a job application.

Back when I was a hard-working farm boy, I knew I had just one chance with that Italian supermodel.
But my powerball ticket didn't hit, so va vongole.

I just started the Japanese program recently, and it certainly seems to be effective. The interesting thing is there is no actual translation given during the courses, everything is done with contextual images as the speakers are saying words and phrases in the native language. It uses speech recognition so it can tell you how accurately your pronunciation is during the sessions.

My mom works for DoD, and they evaluated the Rosetta Stone for a long time and had some of the employees tested on it against their traditional language courses, and according to her they found it to be severely lacking, as far as results go.

YMMV. Do a google search, there's lots of opinions out there.
