I've noticed while typing that my computer has started to miss printing some of the letters on the screen.  It's happening even while I'm typing this message.  I know it's not my typing skills because I've even tried typing slower and deliberately ensuring that I hit each key.  It's happening here and with my email account but I noticed that it's not affecting Microsoft Word.  I've tried to do a "System Restore" three different times to get the computer back to the settings from a few weeks ago but I keep getting an error message saying it was unsuccessful.  I've even tried changing keyboards and it's still having problems.  Just in typing the few lines above it's happened over a dozen times (closer to two dozen) where I've had to go back and retype the letter or press the space bar again.  Any idea what is causing this problem and how to fix it?

The problem is probably your keyboard itself.

I have this problem a lot too when I type too fast.  Sometimes you just don't hit a key hard enough.

Lots of that going around. It's prominent with IE7, you might want to run a full virus scan on your computer or maybe start disabling add-ons or uninstall any toolbars you have installed.

Symptoms are that your keyboard works perfectly fine out side of IE7, word, notepad, write, etc.. but  screws up when typing inside the browsers, ie. ARfcom, Yahoo email etc...

If you're SURE you're typing one letter and getting a different letter, AND you've tried other, known good keyboards, it's possible your keyboard layout has gotten changed.  You can check that in the control panel.  Also, it never hurts to run full virus and malware scans.  Other than than just plain mistyping or a bad keyboard, I can't think of anything else off the top of my head.

I've probably dealt with 500+ computers since IE7 came out and I haven't seen or heard of this particular problem.  Got a link?  Maybe a MS KB article?  Not saying it's not real, just that I'd like to see the problem and some known solutions.  Maybe give me a chance to look real smart in front of my clients.  Not that it's all that hard mind you.

When is the last time you totally shut down your computer and restarted it?
